Ely, they are fairly easy from what I read. And they must be if they have them here as freeway plants. LOL. The Phormium tenax are hardier and some can surivive down to 18 degrees. The dwarf cookianum hybrids I think like it a bit warmer and can tolerate it drier. Zone 8 and 9. They like water though when mature they can do well with little except in cold places where they have a hard time survivng winter if water starved in summer.

This is my favorite one I have.
