It's funny that you should say that "It is amazing that single straight trunk can hold that canopy of blooms up." The single trunk is thick and solid, but some of the branches are being weighed down by the flowers. I was out the door before 6:00 a.m. this morning only to see that my Pink Beauty tree pruned itself in the middle of the night. A huge branch was on the ground. The tree still looks fine, and I can't even find where the branch fell from! It is blooming like crazy, but some of the branches don't look all that healthy. There are rings inside the wood, and I have to find out what that means exactly and if that is bad. I don't see any marks typical of SB, but there are parts of the bark that are distorted and very nobby, split, and woody.
