Winter is too cold, so the vine dies to the ground. When the night temps warm up to the hi 70s, passies will quit setting buds. Lady Margaret does well in the ground here. The first year I started with a small cutting from logees. Didn't see blooms until fall. The next year, she did much better--made a large vine and bloomed some in spring and LOTS in fall. I live on acid clay soil. Passiflora usually like slightly acid soil. They also like rose fertilizers. They need Potash. They seem to like epson salts occassionally in their water. They need a well drained area--but we are having torrential rains and my vines are huge. In this forum I recommended a new passiflora book that is just coming out in English. I think it may give more specific soil recommendations for different kinds of passies. They come from all over the world--- and all kinds of growing situations. What is good for one might kill another. Pura vita is holding its own- but it is 2 yrs old and just a long 6 ft stem with leaves. Never bloomed. The picture is last years vine. Now--HOW do you root Lady Margaret?!?!? |
