AustinSerenity wrote: Hello everyone, I came to Dave's last year but never ended up doing anything with it, but now that I've got some pretty decent gardens, I have more motivation to hang out. :) I'm in Red Rock (SW of Austin) and have a small 5 acre homestead where we do all sorts of sustainability projects. I've got a 2.7 kilowatt solar array, 2 wells of which one is now off-grid, rainwater collection, bee hive, chickens, goats, turkeys, rabbits (almost here), lots of different types of gardens including standard, raised bed, wicking beds, aquaponics (in process) and a hugleculture (in process) and a small (new) orchard with plums, pears, peaches, apples, pomegranates, persimmons, and I'm forgetting a couple. :) We are almost done with our grey-water oasis as well. (I know I'm forgetting some things.) In the gardens, I've got 3 sisters, square foot garden, tea gardens, herb gardens, blueberries, grapes, lots of heirloom everything (especially tomatoes), corn, and a bunch of different fruits and veggies. I've had small gardens in the past, mostly tomatoes, so this is my first foray into 'real' gardening and I'm pretty happy with things so far (although still overwhelmed at times). If anyone is curious, I have lots of pics up on Facebook if you search 'BBQ and Bullets Homestead'. :) I hope to meet some new friends! Oh, and a quick question: I've got a pretty good-sized mint garden, and most of them are doing fabulously, but all of a sudden my chocolate mint has taken a turn for the worse. I'm attaching a pic of it right next to my spearmint. It used to be just as large and lush as the spearmint and in 2-3 weeks it has gone downhill. All the others surrounding it are fine. Any thoughts? Thanks everyone! |
