I would think if there are brug trees, you are safe esp if you plant them by a south wall or close to some protection. I have had mine live outdoors for many years. In the last bad freeze one of them died back to the ground but came back. Last winter I had some leaf frost burn but no stem death. Some top die back though on the tallest ones. I live in the Bay Area.
