If there were figs on it I would leave them on and just wrap the plant-- and check on it every so often (to see if the fruit has ripened, grown, fallen off).

I wrap my balcony trees with lawn and leaf bags (paper) and then put plastic over that-- however I live in VA where it is a litle warmer than where you are (but not by much -- I face North and the winds get pretty fierce sometimes, not to menion the 50 inches of snow last year)
