On each one, I have a permanent tag (made from a plastic mini-blind) which includes the named variety or cultivar; who it came from; and the date received. In the case of seeds, I've included the name of the hybridizer; where the seeds came from; the date planted. I also have all this information on an excel spreadsheet that I call my "gardening journal". I know it takes a little longer to add all this info to a plant label, but maybe it might be worth it in the long run when sometime down the road your memory is fuzzy on a particular plant. In fact, I think I'll do this myself when sharing cuttings with others in the future...
