Recently I've seen a few comments from people bemoaning the fact that they aren't sure from whom certain plants have come...I know I'm a newbie, but someone, I think Brugie, told me a while back about the importance of keeping records on my brugs. On each one, I have a permanent tag (made from a plastic mini-blind) which includes the named variety or cultivar; who it came from; and the date received. In the case of seeds, I've included the name of the hybridizer; where the seeds came from; the date planted. I also have all this information on an excel spreadsheet that I call my "gardening journal". I know it takes a little longer to add all this info to a plant label, but maybe it might be worth it in the long run when sometime down the road your memory is fuzzy on a particular plant. In fact, I think I'll do this myself when sharing cuttings with others in the future...
Record keeping
Kaufmann,
I kind of do the same but instead of marking the plant with the name of the person I got it from ,I keep a log that I write everything in. when I get a cutting from someone I put that persons name beside it in the book.
I think it would be wise though to start keeping a record of the names of the people we send them to and what we sent them.
You see on another thread here that someone is accusing Donna of sending them infected plants and she didn't even send them any.
I keep info by my computer, of what different ones have. When I make contact and then receive plants/cuttings, I take the paper/dates/name of person/name of brug or whatever. Keep all in a journal.
I also keep a gardening journal on excel as a backup to my tags. I am pretty diligent about updating it on a daily basis, and one of the things I did was adapt the DG trade tracker to fit in my journal. That way I know what I have sent to people and what people have sent me. Shoot, I have to admit that I'm getting feeble minded and I just can't remember everything I do anymore.
I read that post -- it really galls me to think that someone would accuse a person of sending a diseased plant to them, when in fact they were not the recipient of ANYTHING from the alledged sender... Then it becomes a "he said, she said" and isn't pretty. I guess I'm naive to some extent, but I always expect gardeners to be "above it all"...
Great job, Kaufmann.
you guys are sooooo organized........
I'm lucky to remember my name let alone remember to track all my trades......I forget about half my trades......help,someone ,quick, organize me!
I wish I had been more diligent, I started an online journal, but didn't keep it going. from now on I will for sure!!!
I write EVERYTHING down. My memory is terrible. I have got brug seeds from trades and all info is in my folder - even germinate data ie. when sown, how long to germinate etc and the names of trades sent and received. If I didn't do this I would be lost.

Sue: I'm with you -- I have all the information you mentioned in my journal. I would go crazy without it!
Well that explains why I am CRAZY
If I had to clean up the mess that your dear bird made, I would really be CRAZY!
All in fun :)
LOL CC, I am with you! Organization is not my middle name!
