Monterey, its been handling 40-degree nights quite well, and it has even dipped into the high 30's for a few hours in the early morning, but I do think that it would not like freezing temperatures. Fortunately, it only freezes here every ten years or so. I would love to see some picture of your Allspice. I've never heard of Carla's virus, but I have heard that P. Incense seems to be prone to viruses. My P. Incense looks okay. It sounds like we have the same taste in plants! I buy a lot of my plants mail order these days because I am leaning toward the unusual, but I do get some things from Home Depot. San Marcos Growers is a big supplier since it is so close, and Monrovia is a big one too. Here's another picture of my P. Alata Ruby Glow:
