Hello,
Does anyone know the species of this Passiflora?
Passion Flower ID
Do you have it blooming? Looks like Alata Ruby Glo. I had one for three years, never bloomed for me, not long enough growing season outside and didn't do well inside.
It's Quadrangularis "Granadilla"
Hi Plantsman,
I agree with Monterey that it is either P. Quadrangularis or it is a P. Quadrangularis hybrid called: Passiflora X Decaisneana. I tried to identify your flower here at this post: http://davesgarden.com/t/418951/
The P. Alata Ruby glow looks similar, but is not an exact match. Here is my Ruby Glow below.
Thank you Clare. It is indeed P x decaisneana. That is what the tag said when I ordered the plant last year. I wanted confirmation because I've seen a pic of a totally different Passiflora call P. x decaisneana. Now I know I have the right plant!
The photo was taken in November of last year while the vine was in full bloom. Not sure if it will come back this year from the roots. Our low temp so far this winter has been 10 above zero.

Clare if I could grow that,WOW! What is it's min temp?If a person can fall in love with a plant, I have ,wooooo! I'am keeping that shot in my file. My Allspice is flowering, but we have this front coming in, so garage time. Hope to get some good shots. Who do the plants in your area come from? I like Monrovia, but Monterey Bay Nursery seems to have the best in my area, Allspice is their "New Incense" as they say. What is Carla's virus? Monterey Bay says that Passifloras have it alot. They said it makes gold spots on the leaves, Allspice is supposed to not have it like the old Incense did. See you later. I put in a new Cape Mallow too. Last week a tea tree, funny huh?Byeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Sure, Ray. I don't think this one will come back from the roots if it has died to the ground, but I could be wrong. You may want to order another one from Logee's just in case. My Quadrangularis "Warmlands" died when temperatures dropped below 45. So I quickly ordered another from Logee's.
Monterey, its been handling 40-degree nights quite well, and it has even dipped into the high 30's for a few hours in the early morning, but I do think that it would not like freezing temperatures. Fortunately, it only freezes here every ten years or so. I would love to see some picture of your Allspice. I've never heard of Carla's virus, but I have heard that P. Incense seems to be prone to viruses. My P. Incense looks okay. It sounds like we have the same taste in plants! I buy a lot of my plants mail order these days because I am leaning toward the unusual, but I do get some things from Home Depot. San Marcos Growers is a big supplier since it is so close, and Monrovia is a big one too. Here's another picture of my P. Alata Ruby Glow:
I like San Marcos info, Tara's Pink and Tara's Wonder are named after Baldwin's dog. I sent him an e-mail about their Phygelius ( Cape Fuchsia) They had the wrong name for it's cross breeding parents. He sent me back a nice e-mail I was impressed. We don't get their stuff here, but a great site. El Modeno provides a lot of the stuff at HD and Lowes. The nurseries have Monterey Bay, Monrovia, or private stock. Thanks for the info and pics. Here is a shot I took last week.
