I've tried numerous times without success. Last summer I consulted with a large grower in Santa Barbara on how they grew their sangs. I was told they were all grown from seed, as THEY could not root cuttings either. I have a handful of seedlings that are now a year old. They're growing in 5-gallon pots. Maybe this spring or summer they'll bloom. Remember that the native habitat of these brugs is the cool slopes of the Andes, so they do not like to be in the sun on hot summer days. Plant them in a protected, shady area where the moisture is high. I have 2 in my garden and they bloom just fine here in the San Fernando Valley (LA area). The caterpillars just LOVE the fuzzy leaves. Here is a photo taken this past summer in my backyard brug heaven. |
