I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this is truly beautiful and upholds century of tradition. In 1992 Mt. Angel, St. Mary's suffered a pretty good earthquake, we were out our building almost two years. There was so major renovation that had to be done and I am sure the priest at the time wanted to make major changes. People in the parish made so much noise that he didn't get nearly everything he would have liked. On the old high altar we have the same Last Supper plaque. St. Mary's was built in 1912 by the Germans and Swiss who settled here from Engleberg. We have a Benedictine monastery just south east of town up on a hill. Quite picturesque up there. I will see what I can find. This edited to say this is a view of the "hilltop" as we call it from our farm east of town. This message was edited Dec 11, 2003 6:44 PM |
