Your temps of 34 is equivalent to 0 degrees here I think. We only get to about 40, on your scale, over winter, and it's not for very long. Some broms can go to temps of 20 (-5 here).
I think the one you mean is V. 'Red Chestnut'? at the back left? The one in the foreground is Neoregelia 'Barbie Doll', not a very spectacular plant, I don't know what possessed me!
I don't have alot of experience with the native plants of Australia, but have planted various rainforest species, as these appeal more to my taste for the tropics.I love Phormiums, as I am originally from N.Z, where they are native. I have HUGE green ones I grew from seed, not the usual coloured, smaller varieties. I find the coloured ones suffer from the humidity here, but the green seed grown ones don't? lucky for me.
