I purchased a Phyllostachys Nigra(Black Bamboo) plant in a 15 gallon container. I planted it adjacent to a walkway & I'm a bit concerned. Phyllostachys Nigra is a running bamboo but it is said to be slow growing & one of the less invasive varieties of running bamboo.

I was wondering it would be in my best interested to use a root barrier to protect the adjacent walkway, I've been told that the rhizomes of running bamboo are extremely distructive & have been known to buckle sidewalks once the plant is established.

I would like to prevent this from happening. I've attached a photo of where the plant is situated. I'd like some input from people who are familiar with Phyllostachys Nigra.
