Kell wrote: Kristi, the tiny, tiny ones do great. And they are so much fun to watch grow. I even sometimes just stick them in the big pot with the mother then dig them out when they get to be 6 inches to give away. What works for me in all my rootings is.......... prepare your new pot and wet it well. Make a hole in it with a pencil to the depth you are going to place the cutting. If thick, twirl the pencil in the dirt to make hole bigger. Sometimes I use rooting hormone, sometimes not. Stick cutting in, push soil around the cuttings tight. DO NOT WATER AGAIN until the soil is almost dry! Place in shade. Mist if you want. On the big ones, when the wilted leaves perked up, it has taken. If I am being very good or having trouble with getting one to root, I cover it with a plastic bag after I rinse the plastic bag with water and drain it. I secure top with a small piece of velcro so it is easy opening and closing. I leave bag on a few days but make sure it is in a cool place so it does not cook the cutting. This hydrates the cutting and helps prevent wilting. Here are some I put up in 6 packs this last weekend, they are Iochroma cyaneum cuttings which I have had trouble rooting in the past but found the plastic bagging makes all the difference. I also use clear plastic bags if they are going to be in them for a while. They will stay sitting under a wisteria vine for awhile! Hope this helps Kristi. |
