On the subject of Peachs&Cream-

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Here is the sucker that I seperated a few months back from another P&C I have. This is the only time the plant has produced a all green shoot.
You can't imagine how LARGE these leaves are growing. The plant is about six feet tall now and know sign of a 'Y'!
The plant pictured is sending out more shoots from the bottom. I keep breaking them off and tossing them. I can hardly keep up with it.

Break one off and toss it in some water,I don't have P&C.I would like to try it,if it will root.hate to think of them hitting the trash.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I too, would like a start of it! What are you doing to make those leaves so BIG??? That's a monster "Arnold Swartzneiger"(sp)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The variegation depresses the growth. Foliage and flowers are smaller on mutated plants as on the original.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

I can't wait to see the flowers!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Here was a old thread with the leaf measurement
http://davesgarden.com/t/375374/

Some of the leaves are even bigger now!

Root & Hibiscus- Just cut off your suckers and have them soaking in some water right now. Since they are green, I'll root them up and send them on. Not sure what the bloom will look like. If it's a dog, toss it *grin*

WOW Kristi, that it is one healthy looking brug. I would love to have a blooming brug in my dining room. My P & C could not tolerate it indoors at all. I finally had to bring it out when it was almost leafless! It has recovered nicely!

I have sev. variegated cuttings I just took Root and Hibiscus, so if you still need one I can send it on when it gets itself together. They are wilted right now.

Kristi, yours is ready to go, I just sent a bunch out Monday and yours is the next to go. And everyone that is getting seeds, they all came back today..........said I needed 12 more cents on them........... I had weighed each one before I mailed them.......so I do not get it!! My secretary sent them back out she told me.............

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Kell- one of my P&C is pretty leafless right now to. I think because the heat is blowing on it. Hopefully all the brugs will be able to go outside REAL soon.

Thanks for the heads up on the package! I'm SO excited.
Also, if the seeds you mailed out were in a large envelope the post office will charge more and send them back, even if your postage weight was correct. Can't count how many times I forget this and ended up with my envelopes of seed back at my door step! Talk about a dork *grin*

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Yeh, and they send it back with the postage you already have on it, cancelled! So you start all over.

I am all ready to go.....sunshine today, whoopee, am putting my plants outside in my new GH that Ed built me.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Oh Congrats on your new greenhouse Hibiscus!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

You got a new greenhouse! You lucky gal! Plant something for me! We are at 38 F right now outside. COME ON SPRING!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Thanks, I love it! It is 53 degrees with sunshine today, love that also.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Kell, honey, sweetheart, gorgeous, beautiful (can I quit yet, my knees are dirty LOL). Any chance you would give up one of those cuttings for a sampler of Daturas, other plants (or one of my kids-preferably the oldest!)?? If you say no, I'll take it like a woman. :)

Hibiscus, congrats with your new GH. It must be great with these high temperatures when everything outside are so much colder *lol* Speaking of GH`s yesterday I saw what Padre has done to renew his GH and his Brug seedlings looked so fine that I was inspired to move all ours into larger pots *lol* Funny, what it sometimes takes to kick-start me, but believe me, it was much needed.

Kristi, I must simply say that I am in love with your giant Brug. I have never imagined that even a sport on P and C would grow to that hight and be able to have so large leaves as well. I) read your report of insect resistance in your Brugs as well and your giant repel them as well. Maybe it has reverted to the primitive type *lol* I read of a man once who breeded dogs, hyaeneas, wolfes and dingos together. One of his crosses resulted in several usual pups - half instinctive animals/ half cultivated -, but one was very different *lol* It loved him with all her heart, followed him everywhere and slept in his little office when he was working on his breeder notes. However, no matter the love that was mutual he never even once succeeded to bring her anything by. He thought that was because she from birth had recieved the genecode of the wild ancestors and lived 100 % from pure instinct *lol* Originally, wild plants have it in their genes to attract what is good for them and repel, what is bad (insects in this case). Many new hybrids has lost that abillity due to the many breeding experiments, but your Brug, Kristi, seem to have re-won these abillities :D

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Would love the variegated cutting, Kell. Thank you for offering. Do you have Peaches & Cream? Or..what else?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Yes, I have P & C. I just took cuttings. It tends to put out tons of side shoots and I have 3 suckers that are rooting.......still wilted. The tinier the cuttings the better they do...... the pot of the little ones never even wilted.

Anyway, as soon as they root I can send them out........ the big ones that is......the little tiny ones I will grow a bit before I pass them on. So all above that wanted them, email me within 1 month to remind me. I am pathetic so you have to nudge me.......... I have about 10 packages that I am late in getting out! Thank goodness I do not trade, or my name would be mud. Just send me postage when you get your box.

Gloria, I also have brug suaveolens variegated which I may dump. It is sweet but not so special to keep it in my space challenged yard. Want me to see if I can root it for you also?

Here is my P & C alley tree........... it is very tall....as you can see it is a foot plus above my garage door at least. It had no leaves last month! Now it is thriving. I recently cut half its root ball off and cut it way back and it loved it. I was afraid I took too much of its roots but it did not even seem to notice.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL......... hit send a bit too fast!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Kelley- do you do anything special to the little side shoots to get them to root? I've not tried to root the little ones.

Your P&C is going to be beautiful!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Kell . . wow that is really a big one. Hope you have lots of blooms this summer. Be sure and show us a picture of her in bloom.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Kristi, the tiny, tiny ones do great. And they are so much fun to watch grow. I even sometimes just stick them in the big pot with the mother then dig them out when they get to be 6 inches to give away. What works for me in all my rootings is.......... prepare your new pot and wet it well. Make a hole in it with a pencil to the depth you are going to place the cutting. If thick, twirl the pencil in the dirt to make hole bigger. Sometimes I use rooting hormone, sometimes not. Stick cutting in, push soil around the cuttings tight. DO NOT WATER AGAIN until the soil is almost dry! Place in shade. Mist if you want. On the big ones, when the wilted leaves perked up, it has taken. If I am being very good or having trouble with getting one to root, I cover it with a plastic bag after I rinse the plastic bag with water and drain it. I secure top with a small piece of velcro so it is easy opening and closing. I leave bag on a few days but make sure it is in a cool place so it does not cook the cutting. This hydrates the cutting and helps prevent wilting.

Here are some I put up in 6 packs this last weekend, they are Iochroma cyaneum cuttings which I have had trouble rooting in the past but found the plastic bagging makes all the difference. I also use clear plastic bags if they are going to be in them for a while. They will stay sitting under a wisteria vine for awhile!

Hope this helps Kristi.

THANKS so much Kell! Some great information. I'm going to try it later this spring.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

You are so smart. Neat job with those plastic bags! We learn something new everyday.

I keep checking everything every day or so, to see if there might be any bugs, too wet, or too dry. I'm taking good care of all my brugs. I think! 70 degrees here, so getting some of what you take for granted. Loving it, everything going outside in protected places.

Gloria

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Gloria- are you putting everything outside for good? Or will you do the plant shuffle if it gets cold? you know the one, LOL! I'm still not sure what our last frost date is in this part of NJ. At this point I think some of the plants would do better outside then in.
I've also left out several small cuttings to see how they can handle the cold and snow. SO far, so good. Of course when we had the four inches last week I did cover them. Maybe I'll take a few small ones out today.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Kristi, I have my "running" shoes on, just in case.......frost, have them close by, so won't have to go far to bring them inside. Ed fixes a tarp over a lot of them I can put under the picnic table. We have a chance of frost here every year until the middle of May.

montgomery, AL(Zone 7b)

I was given 2 P&C. The leaves have white in them. What color of bloom can I expect? I have a "solid Gold" which I presume will be gold, a "EK2" & "Frosty Pink Dr X Suess" That's what is on the labels. What color is EK2? What colors can I expect? I think the Frosty Pink Dr X Suess is beginning to Y. I need to get him in a bigger pot. I'll do that tomorrow.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Ek2 is pink, it shouldn't ever have another name, it was one of Eric's seedlings last year. Looks a lot like Cotton Candy.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Sugar.....check out this thread. Miss Lizzy has the best P& Cs I have seen. ALl her brugs are beautifully grown. I have been missing her lots these last 2 weeks..........

http://davesgarden.com/t/280043/

Sugar,
Here is a picture of P&C...not the best picture but it will give you an idea of what it looks like.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Thank you G. That is the color of my blooms, where Liz's tends to look more yellow? Might be the camera? Or lighting?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Glory, your picture is a good one for distinguishing between P&C and Maya. Maya blooms do not hang straight down. I'm adding a picture of Maya. I know it will be old to some, but kind of helps show the difference so that newer members can tell what they have if they question the name of their brug.

Thumbnail by Brugie
Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great pictures ladies! I SO need to get Maya. I say this as I type and look around at the brugs I have wondering where I'll put them all. I have some more room- thanks to a neighbor. But I'd like to keep them all close to me! Not across the street, LOL..... What's that saying, Surround yourself with beauty?

Kristi

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Liz is very busy with office work...

Kristi, it should not be a problem to get a Maya, some people have it.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm needing a Maya also. It is a pretty one Shirley.
Lots of blooms.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Gloria....... confess........ how many brugs do you have?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ludger, getting one isn't the hard part. Finding a place for it to live is! LOL....... I'm quickly running out of room. Of course I'd have MUCH more space if I could get all these plants outside for good.
