I am the seedling parent of this one having been lucky enough to get these seeds from a seed draw from the BGI seed bank in 2005. This is a Mary Haik cross and for sure to be a winner. Unfortunately at this time I have many brugs showing a mottled coloration (you can see Painted Lady in the photo doing the same thing) due to some recent extreme variations in temperature so it will be impossible right now to determine what her true coloration will eventually be but for right now I am willing to bet that she will be pretty darn dark. The first thing I want to say about this flower is how thick and waxy the corolla is. In fact you must be careful in how you handle it because the tendrils are so thick they snap like pretzels. As the bloom was developing and I felt through the calyx I thought this might be a double because it was so thick and fat. The corolla is 5" (12.7cm) across and faces straight outwards, the length of the calyx to tip of the corolla is 9.5" (24.13cm) long so we are looking at a nice sized flower. I am getting my sense of smell back and i can determine that there is a fragrance but I can't quite give an accurate description. I really think that this is going to be one for the books. Congratulations Mary!! I LOVE THIS ONE!!! and m sure you will too!
