These are south american plants once believed to be in the palm tree family later due the flower structure were put in the aroid family. Then after DNA testing and other research they were put into their own group and later said they were more closely releated to Pandanas like the cork screw pine. Many of these have very odd flowers much like a spath with very stringy looking pollen. The leaves are stiff and much like a palm tree. I have take photos of about a hundered different species. Here is a pic of the flower of this exact same species that is pictured above. |
