Tropicals & Tender Perennials: Inexperienced Brug grower-NEED advice!, 0 by golgi

Thanks ahead of time for any and all advice to this "virgin" grower.I started these two Brugs from seed last spring and they grew on my deck to about 4 to 5 feet with no "y-ing". Before frost,I cut the large stalk back several feet and put it in my cool basement,watering lightly about 1 a month.They immediately started growing a new stalk with leaves-one of them off the side and the other plant directly from the cut.They were supposed to go dormant!
What should I do? Cut the new growth off? Cut the original stalk back even further?I have 4 more months before these can safely go outside.I would really like to get flowers this year and I', afraid they will never "y".
