Perhaps the brown leaves could indicate that it needs more water or maybe more regular watering or maybe less sun? I'm sorry that I'm not much help. This is my first year of growing them. Linda, this is my first year with gingers, but they seem rather easy to grow, but I'm in 10b where I can leave them in the ground all year. I think you probably have to dig them up and store the rhizomes for the winter where you are, but that's not too tough. I would probably grow them in large containers if I was in your zone so that digging wouldn't be a huge chore. You could just empty the pot in the fall and hose off the potting soil and let them dry and store them. Someone in a colder zone could tell you how to overwinter them better than I could. I normally just have fragrant plants in my garden, but I make an exception when it comes to blue or purple flowers. |
