I do the same thing with my cuttings when I save them. I just stick them in water and forget about them. I've left some in water for six months. They get quite a nice root system just sitting in water. I've had roots become so big and thick that I had trouble getting them out of the vase they were in! I just keep adding water when the water level gets low.

About the HG, mine tends to bloom this time of year when it turns cooler so be sure to leave yours outside as long as you can without letting it freeze. Mine also like to be rootbound, it seems.
