Art_n_Garden, the brown spots could be fertilizer burn or sun burn. Sometimes the leaves can burn in super high temperatures, especially with low humidity.

This is an old picture, but it shows the size of the plumerias in their five-gallon containers. You just want the container to be slightly larger than the rootball, and if you have good-draining soil, then you don't have to worry about root rot or overwatering.
