Good for you Kareoke! Any zone is OK if you are just leaving them out after the last frost date and bringing them in before the first frost date! LOL. But to leave in the ground all year round I think as low as zone 8 has worked, maybe a few 7s with lots of winter covering. But I would not leave them out unless they have a good root system down already so if the top dies all the way back you have a good root system to push up new growth in spring. I know I can lose them here in zone 9 if the winter is harsh enough. I always get frost burn on my leaves.

I try to catch my blooms at this stage below, within hours of it opening. I take the anthers out first then pollinate it.
