Can someone give input on how to grow these things? I would like to put them on my deck but am not sure of pot size. Do I need to tie these things to a support of do they do ok on their own.

I hope that they will come through for me, and I will let you know how things come up.

Thanks for any advise on how to get what they advertise.

I believe they are scam artists of the 1st degree and should be in jail.

The tomatoes I ordered came and looked almost dead. But I read the instructions and planted them--I have pictures (my wife said they wouldn't survive). I kept nurturing them and fairly soon they appeared to slowly come to life. (I have pictures). To make a long story short, both plants survived (to my surprise). (Did I say I have pictures?) All in all I have harvested about 22 tomatoes from the two plants. Only 2 were of a larger size, the others were medium to small. The taste was actually good. But for $13+ (including shipping) I don't think it was worth it. But a good experience for me. I think tomatoes are one of those plants that one cannot advertise implying "success." There are too many factors involved in growing them. I might try another plant from this company that is not that "sensitive." FYI: When I first got the plants I sent an e-mail to the company, but never heard back.

I ordered tomato plants for my dad as a Father's Day gift. After several weeks, I tried to call and email Gardener's Choice, with the same lack of response as others have posted here. It is now the 25th of June and I have heard nothing, though at least my card has not been charged.

Their website now says, "Currently most of our items are no longer shipping this season."

It sounds like they are just a re-seller which collects the money then orders items drop-shipped to us from other nurseries. Even though their website makes them sound like they are a real nursery, so busy with making the plants perfect and carefully hand-packing our orders that they don't have much time to talk to actual people or respond to emails.

It is a bit late to be putting tomatoes in the ground here, so they've missed their advertised "shipping for optimal planting time in your zone."

I'll keep posting as progress or lack thereof is made.

I posted all the thing I did when I got the packages. Granted, all is not perfect, but mostly is growing nice. I'm not pitching for the company, but you have to admit they do offer interesting and unique plants. Oh, and they sure came small in size.

Anyway, check it out, maybe you'll feel better about your pending orders.

I ordered some vinca, a couple of hummingbird vines, 2 moonflower vines, and some trees earlier this year. My very first online "gardening" purchase. The vinca arrived on the very weekend spring tried to act like winter. I missed the mail carrier so my poor plants sat out in the freezing cold all night. It didn't help that the mail carrier decided to punch a hole in the box so it'd be easier to hang on my mailbox. Anyway, the vinca was divided into 2 bags and the contents of one of them didn't look too good. The others looked okay. The hummingbird vines didn't look too good either. While waiting the re-arrival of spring, I put the plants in a thick slurry of MiracleGro-enhanced garden soil and water and put the whole lot in my sunroom. There they sat for 2 weeks. Then I used a bulb planter to make holes for the vinca and put them in the ground with some of the slurry in each hole. I didn't expect much from the ones that looked for all the world to be dead. Here we are a couple months later and ALL the vinca is doing well. The hummingbird vines not so good. They haven't died yet though so there's still hope. Part of their problem may be poor location choice on my part and poor judgement on the part of my mail carrier so I'm not holding Gardener's Choice responsible for them. The moonflower vines are growing like crazy. They're scrambling up the little trellises I got for them so fast I can almost watch it happen! Can't wait to see the blooms! I have yet to get my trees so I can't say anything about packing quality but I'm really looking forward to getting my dawn redwood. Overall I'd say I'm pleased and will be ordering some veggies next year.

I placed an order before reading these comments and have felt sick about it since. I have had SO many bad experiences with mail-order companies (like Michigan Bulb or worst of the worse Van Dykes) and have said a dozen times I will not be fooled again, but here I thought I was again. Imagine my surprise when the plants came today, well packaged and in good shape! I ordered an ornamental weeping cherry tree, which is small but not unexpected for the price, but it has great roots and leaves. I also ordered their Amaryllis Daylily and those look pretty good too. I ordered May 11, 2007 and today is the 30th.

I have done alot of business on the I-net including gardening & plants. Never had the experience as with this place.

I sent three separate emails trying to find out when I would receive the other items. No answer. I finally found two phone numbers for them. They were always busy.

Finally I contacted my credit card company. Within 5 minutes the credit card company had put me in contact with a person at this company.

They told me they were looking at my order number which they claimed said two lawn seeds. (My copy of the order form shows one package). And, that my hot pepper wax and hummingbird vines could not ship until a certain date due to federal regulations. I'm sorry, but I sincerely doubt that there are regulations about when a natural pesticide can ship.

I now have a quandry. I can try working with my credit card company again, but they will tell me that the company is following federal laws and fulfilling my order according to their policies. And I'm stuck paying for lawn seed that I didn't order.

I would highly suggest you avoid doing business with this company. I sincerely regret that I did not check this web site before placing my order and wish this web site had more publicity.

I called customer service, which was next to impossible to get through to, long distance, as no 800 number was available for customer service. I had the choice of getting money back or a new shipment. Wanting to let my father-in-law happy with his gift, I chose a new shipment. As they had no more seeds, I agreed to receive two tomato plants after they repeatedly assured me that they would arrive in good condition. A couple of weeks later my tomato plants arrived all shriveled up. There was not even a wet newspaper in the box to provide moisture to the plants. I immideately put them in soil and watered them, and then called the company. Their response was "Too bad, you should have taken the money!" After talking to a supervisor (at leat that's what they told me) that was it. I had chosen a new shipment rather than my money back. It wasn't their fault that the plants arrived useless. They promised delivery within 6 weeks.

On April 13, I received a parcel contains one dead plant, rotton, with a bit soil at the root. Print on the plastic bag: " Tomato, Giant Tree". There is no pot. There is only one rotton dried dead plant approx. 9 inches in length.
Compare with the order: 2 tomato trees.
I took two photos of the "plant" on the day receiving it.

I called the company. Their numbers are busy day and night. I emailed them, no respond.

I called their order hotlines, the customer service is always there, but they said that they only take orders.

On April 23, another parcel arrived. Inside was a 12 inches dried dead "plant" with no root or soil.
Compare with the order: 3 plants in a basket (all we need to do is watering, they claimed)
I took two photos of the "plant" on the day receiving it.

I contacted the company by phone again. The phone is busy as usual. I emailed them requested refund. No respond.

I checked on line trying to post a review, and found hundreds of victims like me on this website.

Now I have a few questions:

1. Since many reviews conclude that this company is a rip-off, why is their business still operating?

2. To which Consumer Affairs Authority in USA should we contact with if we have a hundred of victims ?

3. Is there a Fair Trading Office or Consumer Association in USA, just like UK, NZ, Australia?

4. Is there a one-stop website for consumers to check the businesses' reputation/reviews throughout the entire USA?

5. Is there anything else we can do to protect ourselves (customers in USA) being ripped off by dishonest US companies?

Many thanks Dave's Garden for providing me an opportunity to write reviews on gardening products. I could not find any other places that I can write such reviews.

Regarding Gardeners Choice a mail order company based at PO Box 8005 Hartford Michigan 49057. this is not a reputable company and all should be made aware of this. A visit to'Report.com' will verify all that i'm about to report and then some. This is a consumer RIP-OFF site with loads of testimonials from all over. They have scammed and stolen from thousands of honest hard working people and the elderly covering nearly all 50 states.

In my case I placed and received an order for plants in early spring 2005..Upon arrival I noticed dead, dying and dry plants, some of which I had not ordered. I planted some hoping for a miracle, that did not happen. Hoping they would honor their warranty, I notified them by e-mail as their telephones are busy 24/7 after the selling season. After several e-mail attempts I gave up, till the following spring (2006) I received another magazine with the same crap for sale. (In between that time several gardening friends and acquaintances reported the same problems and others with this company.) I did finally get them to reply to my 5/2006 e-mail and requested a refund for $12.98. This being only a fraction of my original cost and shipping fee. They informed me that a credit for that amount would be sent to my credit card in three weeks. That never happened !!! I e-mailed them again( as their phones are off the hook once again in July and the rest of the season 24/7) and they insist that they credited me. Both my records and that of Master Card show 'no refund' from them and they were informed of this.

After going back and forth with ridiculous replies from them, some making no sense at all I decided to inform BBB abd the Att. Generals office of both states (Mi. & NH). I do have all correspondence on hand for review. I would like to state that its not the $12.98 but the principle. Sadly its not American for Americans to shaft other Americans as they do. A review of their standings in the complaint department by various watch-dog sites on the web should have them locked up and out of business... WHATS UP ??? If one takes time to read what customers received ,how they were treated after attempting recourse, how they were sent to pasture, and some being sweet ol' seniors, its a damn shame that such a gutless company is still able to continue this practice unpunished. I am prepared with loaded guns to put a stop to this rotten company. I hope there is something you can do to assist me. I fear our Government agencies are in the same bed with some of these companies or lack the manpower to move on with it. I also would add that the State of Michigan is known for harboring scam companies. Michigan Bulb (AKA Michigan Crud) is only one of many other companies based in that state with the same practices and poor reputaion. A serious note to the proper officials should be slipped into their State of Michigan offices. As for myself and other friends anything coming from us from Michigan is used to kindle our wood stoves up here in northern NH. Please Help rid of such dirt...
Sincerely; Jitts

I received my order from these people in 3 separate shipments. One shipment arrived with the plants broken and loose in bags. What professional would think this proper? The other two were better, but the plants are not growing, they are dying. No one should waste a cent on this company. How are they still allowed to opperate?: Their claims are absurd and their products arrive in an unusable condition. They get o out of 10 in my book.

I ordered some tomato plants and some fruit trees from GC as below. On 4/24 after coming across this web site, the order had not been shipped and I asked that it be canceled. The following is the communication I received. I am providing details to Visa and disputing the charge.
The last email I sent is the first one below to which I did not get a response. It is interesting to note that an affiliated company located in CT does direct marketing of fire engine models.

I then provide them with a copy of all the negative reviews here and do not receive a response but a few days later, I received a box with a few sprigs/branches and a few spoons of dried out dirt purporting to be live plants.

You indicated that you can't cancel the order since you charged my credit card. Why did you charge my credit card since you haven't and shouldn't ship yet? also, Why did you charge sales tax on an out of state order since you don't have a presence in CT, do you? Is that a back door extra charge or do you really collect tax for other states which virtually no other web site does??

I would like the order cancelled, please. Please confirm.

If no credit is issued i will be instructing the credit card company to charge back your debit.

Why?"

It's really hard to give this company any review. Every spring in the mail comes a card saying for their free catalog fill it out & mail it in. But nothing ever comes. I've been on their website & emailed them about it & their response is just as bad. So no catalog so I gave up, and I'm glad I never ordered from them after seeing all the negative reviews.

I ordered the Rainbow Colored Gigantic Tomatoes and received a package about 6 weeks later. It was within the recommended planting time for my area. However the plants were loose in the box with about a cup of dried out potting soil. It looked as if there was an attempt to put them in a plastic bag that was also floating around in the box. The plants were not usable as they were dried out or limp and hardly recognizable. They had been tossed around in the box and torn apart in transit. There was not a readable date on the postmark other than the month of April. As I received them on April 19 I really have no idea how long they had been in transit. I immediately contacted the company by email and requested a complete refund which they complied with in a timely manner. Because they did issue a complete and timely refund I am giving them a neutral rating.

I purchased 2 Royal Paulownia Empress Trees and 2 Giant Tomato trees from Gardner's Choice. The trees came in a spoonful of soil and were already dead when I opened them; the tomato plants were in peet pots with more soil than the Empress trees had; however, they soon died.

I wish I would have known what a joke this company is; I would never recommend them to anyone. What a waste of money.

Also funny was the shipping charge for the trees was $5.50 and the actual charge was 39 cents. That's $5.11 for handling 2 tablespoons of soil and 2 dead trees.

I am obviously disappointed; as I was really looking forward to these trees. It makes me wonder why all of their pictures are drawings and not real photos of their product.?????
