This winter I ordered several packets of flower seeds which were delivered promptly. I was concerned because the date on two of the packages indicated that the seed was from an old crop. But apparently Harris stores their seeds properly- they grew just fine with an excellent germination rate. I am enjoying my flowers and will order from Harris again. |

Despite using potting mix and leeching all the fertilizer while germinating causing continual mold growth i had very high germination rates with all seed with no heat mat. I also started these flowers in mid Jan which I later found out was not ideal for these plants in florida. It is now mid June and all plants are still vigorously flowering. All varieties did exceptionally well especially considering our 90+ Temps here as well as about 85 average high for last month or so. The petunias cosmos and snapdragons were all mix colors and all produced a well mix of colors i will definitely use them again and would recommend to anyone else. |

But your mixup caused a lot of harm. How much do you value your customers? $5.00 worth? Apparently not. In the situation where you have sent the wrong seed and only notified customers late in the season, the customer has been negatively impacted quite a bit. Every company that genuinely cared about its customers would not need to be prodded to send their customer a small gift card as a gesture to make up for the hours of wasted labor and waste of garden space caused by your mistake. Harris? Apparently not. Keep your pretty words, they don't seem to be backed up with the most basic accommodation that a customer could reasonably expect. Harris is not only unreliable, turns out it's cheap, too. On Feb 21, 2019, Harris Seeds / Garden Trends responded with: "On Aug 19, 2018 9:20 PM, Harris Seeds / Garden Trends responded with: Thank you for your review and for being a loyal Harris Seeds customer. In regards to the winter squash you received that was not what you ordered, we sincerely apologize for the mix up. When the issue was discovered, we took action to notify and refund our customers who ordered the seed as promptly as we could. In doing this, we realized that the refund was being processed before the letters of notification were reaching our customers. We understand the confusion this causes and have made efforts to re-structure our system to avoid this in the future. Your disappointment in not receiving the item you ordered is also completely understandable. We pride ourselves on selling top quality seeds and do all we can to ensure that this is the case. Rarely, a mix-up will occur in seed processing and it is not discovered until late in the season, as happened with the Honeynut Squash and Bush Delicata Squash this year. This is certainly something we wish to avoid, and we are implementing additional checks to help prevent such occurrences in the future. |

On May 1st, 2017, LOVIE2 changed the rating from positive to negative and added the following: I have been dealing with this company since 2009 and up until April 2017, was pleased with the products and customer service. Something has changed and it has not been for the better. I placed an order in February for an April delivery for some seeds and a 2nd Mighty Midget Cherry Tree. The tree ended up on backorder until May 9th. I started calling on 4/12/17 to cancel the tree order (seeds were already received), and was told no problem, the cancellation was submitted and to expect my refund within 5 business days. I have called 4 times since with promises of a call back from the representative Gail and as well "Ryan" the credit guy via csr Michelle. I have not received one return phone call yet, nor have I received my refund, beyond my shipping refund which posted the next day after a call #3. It's now May 1, 2017 and I have gotten nowhere. I can no longer say this is a positive experience as the thrill is definitely gone. will never refer another person to this company. Extremely unprofessional and disappointing. On June 5th, 2017, LOVIE2 changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: I finally received my refund and a call from one of the managers there. I'm not often successful, but always hopeful, when I start flower seeds using heat mats and proper lighting. The seeds came within a week. I got a personal e-mail from Hannah at Harris Seeds asking if they had arrived and if I had any questions. When I was disappointed in the germination after two weeks, she offered to send some additional seeds at no cost and also offered advice on what to try to improve germination. We've developed an e-mail relationship, and I feel like I've made a new friend. I'm glad I discovered Harris Seeds. |

Before I posted my original comments, I called customer service to ask whether US seeds were available and they told me that they didn't have any. Today, I got a call from Richard Chamberlin, the president of Harris Seeds. Mr. Chamberlin told me that virtually all hybrid tomato seeds are produced overseas. The hand pollination required for hybridization is very labor intensive and Chinese labor is much cheaper then US labor. As a result, all hybrid tomato seed is now produced overseas. Harris, like most seed sources, is a reseller, not a producer. It's not that they want to sell foreign seed, but rather that there is simply no US producer of hybrid tomato seed available to purchase from. I've mistakenly assumed the hybrid seeds I've been planting for years have been produced here in the US, but that's just not the case. What is the case is that Harris has a single package that they use to sell product in the US and Canada. Canada requires the country of origin be on the label, but the US doesn't. My mistake is assuming that nothing on the other brands package meant the seeds were produced in the US. All that being said, I'd like to apologize to the folks at Harris Seeds for my original Neutral review. I purchased from Harris based on positive reviews on this site and I'd like to add another. When the President of a company will take the time out of his day to educate an ignorant consumer, that company is OK by me. |

I think this company is way underrated. They have a vast selection on their website (compared to their home catalog), their prices are competitive, fast shipping and confirmation, excellent germination. Never a problem! On May 19th, 2013, chunx added the following: This has become my primary seed company now. Their prices are very competitive or often much lower and processing is same or next day. I have had stellar germination on all varieties of seeds I've ordered. So far I've placed two orders this year and I'm very pleased again. Make sure you sign up for their emails and you get special offers such as free shipping and sale items. On March 27th, 2014, chunx added the following: Placed another order recently which consisted of one packet of very expensive seeds (which was still less than most vendors) along with several other packets of flower and vegetable seeds. The expensive packet was stated to contain 50 seeds but there were 58 seeds which was a real bonus. I have sown 25 of that packet and each seed germinated with only one seed per compartment. Of the other packets, I usually put 3 seeds in each compartment and have had excellent germination from those seeds also. Harris Seed and Hudson Seed have become my two main suppliers for the past few years because of their service, prices, selection, and germination rates. If you haven't tried either company, I suggest you do so. You won't be disappointed. On another note, I buy my everyday generic type seeds at Lowes which are both Burpee and Ferry-Morse. The Burpee seeds are way less than half of what they are on their website and so it's a no brainer. Never had a problem with germination or true to packet with them either. |

One of the items I purchased was a grow light stand, which was made and shipped by another manufacturer. Harris kept me informed through the 2 week process and provided detailed shipping information so that I could track the order. They were very helpful and informative through the process and were kind and professional when responding to my inquiries. I did quite a lot of shopping around before choosing them to place my order and they were the cheapest of anyone. The Gerbera, Petunia and Zinnia seeds I ordered have all had over a 90% germination rate so far and the electronics I purchased were top notch quality and functioned well. I cannot remember when the least expensive company also provided the best service and had the best products. Ever!! They are truly a rare treasure. Thank you, Harris, for making the choice easy! I'll certainly be back again! |

In fact it was even more dried out than the first dead tree! I didn't immediately call the company. Sometimes it's better to wait a bit to be properly composed. Holding off was the better strategy, because today, May14th, I very unexpectedly received a second replacement tree. This tree is very much alive and in relatively decent condition. There's been some tip pruning of what I suspect was winter dieback, but the tree is leafing out nicely. I'm pleased with this replacement. I'm leaving my rating at neutral. For example, the products you ordered can only ship the week of April 26th and the week of May 3rd, and unfortunately the dates cannot be changed.
