I placed my order for a Royal Empress Tree and Crape Myrtles assuming that I made a bargain. Instead of 72 hrs my order arrived after a couple of weeks in dormant state and I planted them as soon as I received them. The roots of the crape myrtles were very dry and the stems very thin. I suspectted that they may alredy be dead and that was why they were cheap. I said my prayers for them when I planted them, but they never came out of dormancy. I was excited when what I thought was a Royal Empress Tree started to bud, but after the leaves fully grew, I realized that it was an oak tree and not a Royal Empress!

Actually I feel Lucky after reading some of these posts
Ordered 6 Blushing knockout roses on or about 4/29/08
Received in a timely manner small cardboard tubes
good size plants though root system not developed very well one even had a tag naming them as Blushing knockout Roses (How clever).
Babied them got them all to grow somewhat.
Now I have 6 blooming double knockout roses .......I think ?
To be fair they are roses and they are red that much I am sure of ! Due to their Company's History I just cant be sure ?
Try ed to Email them repeated times with no response as of yet!
In my opinion (keep in mind I'm the one who got screwed)when buying plants on line its a crap shoot !
save yourself the aggravation pay the extra money buy local from someone whom you can have some sort of recourse when something goes bad .
Just my 2 cents .....Burned in Illinois

This company is my worst nightmare!!!!!!!! Never in my 15 or so years of ordering online have I ever had an issue. Until Summer Stone!! I ordered three yellow coneflower and one white...back in April...they all came up last month and were purple coneflower!! I was heart broken!! I live in a very rural area and have never been able to find the sunrise yellow coneflower in my area. I contacted Summer Stone....repeatedly!!!!! They would never respond to me! It wasn't until I contacted the BBB that they sent me an e-mail wanting more information about my order. After I e-mailed back my info it still took me sending it to them repeatedly to get a response!!! Now they are telling me that they will reship my order to me in SPRING OF 09!! What the heck!??? This company is crap!

Anyone have any yellow coneflower they wanna share????????? :)

AWFUL! And, apparently, they don't know a thing about lillies. I placed an order with them in April for three "daylilies". Being new to gardening, I ordered from the daylily page. Too bad I discovered upon further research that one of the "daylilies" I had ordered is actually a lily - I have no idea what they sent me as it hasn't bloomed and it certainly wasn't a bulb.

As far as the other two dayliles, they should have been a pink (Hush Little Baby) and a lavender/yellow (Clothed in Glory). Imagine my surprise when a solid gold daylily and a red spider daylily bloomed in their places!

I emailed Summerstone because they gaurentee that their plants are labeled correctly. I haven't heard back yet, but based on other reviews, I am not surprised.

Simply do not order from them as they aren't familiar with the plants they sell and can't even send the right ones.

On September 5th, 2008, Buckeyesnblooms added the following:

I sent the company an email on July 15 asking for replacements for the incorrect daylilies they sent and didn't hear anything back from them until yesterday, Sept. 4! They said they would reship my order in the spring. I guest I'll have to wait and see what they send this time!
On February 26th, 2009, Buckeyesnblooms added the following:

I received an email last week stating that my order was being reshipped and it arrived this past Saturday. Too bad there is snow on the ground and it's February! Not quite the spring reshipping that they promised. As far as the plants, they're hardly bigger than seedlings. This company is beyond incompetent.

june 2008, i'd purchased 1 autumn flowering cherry, cherokee princess dogwood, 10 hydrangea P.G. hedge and 1 hydrangea tree, totaling $50.80, which i paid by credit card
on june 20, i just so happen to open my front door to look at my garden, and keep my eye on where the were nesting. I then noticed a box on my door step, the fedex labal has a reture address of AUTUMN RIDGE NURSERY, and there was another retured labal with sumerstone nursery. inside the box was 7 dry up plants, there should have been 13 items. no invoice sheet to inform and . i'd called autumn ridge nursery and spoken to a sale rep. who was very short with me for asking why was their address on the fedex. labal
she kept asking for a order number, which would have been under my name. I repeated that there wasn't any order number on that labal, but on the other labal there was #19637
she informed me to call summerstone, which i did. and spoken to a rude sale person, that inform me that what i order was the box and i should look again, and that they will not ship out any more order until the fall. and i would have to wait untli then. I'd informed her that i was a traveling nurse and will be here in the fall. I purchased these item from your company because you have a 72 hours shipping policy, the fit my working scheduled. I asked her for the manager number, she infomed me to call monday. I really felt like the company failed to render customer service and infomation as to what was shipped and who pack the order. Also fed.ex received no signature from me, so who signed my delivery form??. i'd called my bank to disputes the amount of money i paid for services that was not render

I'm very disappointed

I placed a $70 order and it took over 10 days to arrive.

Their web site does not even specify that you need a male and female arctic Kiwi to get fruit (I am a novice) and they sent me 2 that were obviously DOA.

Some but not all of the hosta I ordered are coming up.

several emails were ignored completely and I always got a busy signal when I called.

I will NOT order again.

I enclose a copy of the letter that I wrote to the credit card company to contest our business with them. In summary they sent us the WRONG trees (15) so we ended up giving them love and care to find out we had to PULL THEM OUT and start over. Bad Karma!

After many ignored emails and phone calls the company finally agreed to resend the (ignored) honeysuckles and the correct honey locusts but the entire batch was as hard and dry as toothpicks. There is no doubt that these people are buying 'dead stock' somewhere to turn a quick profit. Here's the cc letter:

I write this letter to contest two charges in my 05-10-08 billing statement. These charges are;

#1 #11156 04-30 55432868121000264425691 Summer Stone $89.25

#2 #12416 05-02 85140618123000534160760 Summer Stone $45.00
=====
Total disputed amount $134.25

The first order supplied the WRONG trees that we spent days digging holes for and preparing. We had ordered 15 Thornless Honey Locusts and we have no idea what was shipped but the leaves are distinctly NOT this tree. We have detailed photos of what we received should you give us an email address to provide an Adobe Acrobat document showing them.

The second order for 12 Honeysuckles simply didn’t arrive.

We have sent numerous emails to these people describing their errors and have NOT received any replies. Once, they told us they would re-ship both orders but refuse to provide any details of how these were shipped. Our concern is that these are LIVE trees and can only survive for so long in transit AND how do we know they’ll get the trees right the second time. Keep in mind these are ‘bare root’ trees with no foliage and only reveal their leaf structure after weeks of nuturing.

I was very nervous after I placed this order and after NOT receiving my plants in 72 hrs. I found this website. I e-mailed Summerstone 2 x but found that calling is the best method for getting results. It had been over 2 weeks since I ordered. I spoke to a friendly representative who told me that they are really behind on getting orders out. She got my order # and told me she will have it shipped. The next day or 2 I received an e-mail for my shipment. It took about 5 days to receive the tube. Everything looked o.k. except I was missing a shrub. I called and let them know that I was missing part of my order and she wanted the initials on the tube which I had already thrown out. So it would be a good idea to keep the tube if you need to call to report a problem. 2 days later I got an e-mail saying my order has been shipped. I am not sure if I will order from any on-line nursery again but I was glad to have gotten the products I ordered and for the friendly receptionist.

Ordered 2 Royal Empress trees, Both were reasonable damp when received, planted in same size pot, same growing medium, placed side-by-side, both get same water etc. One leafed out app 2 weeks sooner than the other, it is much larger, leaves 3-4 times as large. Other one has very small leaves, but a lot of them, do not hardly look like the same tree. Called cust service, was told give the one with small leaves that looks dwarfed a little fertilizer, give it time. They 'buy all their trees from the same group of growers,' but these might have come from different growers. Give it time and keep the faith.
Told them this is not giving me a warm fuzzy feeling!!!

I should have read the reviews before I order . If you plan to order don't even try it is easier to go to your local nursery where you know that you get what you paid for. Autumn Nursery is a BIG BIG RIP

Having bad experiences with online nurseries in the past, I placed a single order for a burning bush shrub on 5/17/2008 and it was supposed to be shipped in 72 hours. It has now been 3 business days (72 hours) and my order has still not been shipped. I can't reach them via email.
I'm concerned since they stop shipping to my zone on 6/15 that I won't receive the order. I guess that's how they offer such low prices. They don't deliver the goods.

I placed an order with Summer Stone Nursery prior to finding this site, but only minutes before. Minutes after placing my order, I emailed them and told them to cancel my order. Although my order, 3 clematis and a trumpeter vine, only totaled $25, I prefer to shop at reputable places. They obviously fail to read or regard correspondences because a few days later I received an email stating my order had shipped. I called them for a tracking number. I was informed that "tracking numbers do not exist for general mail shipments". This order shipped on a Thursday from Tenessee to Colorado - normally 4 days for USPS, adding another day for Sunday. Surprised that a functioning mail order plant business would ship so slow, I inquired about this. I was told that the plants are dormant and packaged "really well" for the trip. When the tube arrived, it was very hot, but all plants seem dormant. Only the trumpeter vine had any sort if liquid material on the roots. The clematis were in plastic baggies. The trumpeter vine looks dead but the clematis' roots feel like moisture exits in them. The planting directions are horrible - very generic. I placed them in pots and will see if any grow. In the past the plants I purchased mail order arrived in pots and shipped very quickly, minimizing the stress to the plants. I could accept "bare root" with faster shipping. Even if these plants sprout, to who knows what type of vines, I will not order from this comapny again. I should've paid a bit more to receive a lot more in return.

My order arrived in just 6 days! I expected the plants to be dormant since that is the ideal way to plant in the spring. On two items they sent more than I ordered - an extra wineberry and instead of 1 dewberry they sent me 4! The blueberry plants, while small, have wonderful root systems.
I am already busy placing another order.

I ordered Sparkle and Surecrop strawberry plants from Summerstone nursery....
I just set them out today...They are the best looking strawberry plants I have ever seen...They are ALIVE and have big, healthy root systems (which was a surprise to me, after receiving some strawberry plants earlier from another nursery that were dried out and brown with a scrawny root system...I wound up losing over half of them)
If I lose any of these magnificent plants, it will be my fault....
If you want good, healthy strawberry plants, I recommend Summerstone nursery....

We expect what we see in the catalog and would buy at a nursery but you will receive dormant (their fancy word for dead) dried twigs and mushy bulbs.

Don't do business here.

Just spend the money to get your plants alive and ready to thrive rather than dried out and freezer burned.

I am a big man with a quick temper and would happily pound my feelings of dissatisfaction into these peoples asses were I not a thousand miles away. Send me a note with my twigs telling me how THEY pay extra to refrigerate these freakin sticks??

I hate loosing a dollar trying to save $3. The local nursery has the same stuff for $12.99 all potted and growing and this place gave me a cold dried stick for $4.99. I am mad.

Good thing I don't live closer to them. I'd bring a whole 12 pack of whop-ass to that party.
