I ordered a Rome Apple tree, a Kiefer Pear tree, A Nectarine and a Dwarf Cherry tree of 1" caliper 4-6' tall. All the trees came in a box exactly on the week I was able to plant them. They were in good condition and pruned as I expected as I researched on their website about what to expect. I read their instructions on planting and mixing sand with the soil and watering at appropriate times. Two of them have blumes on them already, except for the Nectarine and Pear which are late fall bloomers so I don't expect to see any real growth until the heat of the summer. I called the company to be reassured about the pruning of the pear tree. Since I am inexperienced I am a little nervous about what the pear is to look like and they were very helpful and very curtious and sweet. I think that after reading some of the unhappy blogs that it's important to impart my wisdom...plants are like children; care, love and be patient with them, research and learn about them, use the community to help you grow them, share them with the world. I heard a quote from someone the other day...plants want to grow, it's in them to survive as it is with us. A little care and they will blossom. I am so happy with my order from Willis that today I ordered Blueberry bushes. This fall I will be ordering Raspberries and grapes.

I have emailed them several times, but have never even received the courtesy of a response. These people should be avoided at ALL costs.

DON'T BUY FROM WILLIS NURSERIES OF GEORGIA. In October of 2008 I ordered 2 Pawpaw trees, 1 fig tree, and 1 quince. Roughly a month later I received a call letting me know the trees would be shipped shortly. I received the trees on 1 February, in Ohio. This was a little tough as we were in the middle of winter and getting them in the frozen ground was difficult. With that said, we got them in and now that we are in spring I am happy to report the quince and the fig tree survived. However, the Pawpaws did not survive. The call to Willis was wasted time. The lady on the phone was rude, lectured me on "how we all have to take responsibility for our actions..." not sure how that applies here, and ended by telling me Jesus loves me, which is nice but I'm Jewish, then she hung up. Just hung up. And all I asked (quite calmly and politely) was is there some possibility that they would have a record of the sale to verify the sale in the absence of me retaining the original receipt that was shipped with the trees. Long story short, I was only asking for replacements, was happy to send the dead trees back as requested, but was told that without the original receipt, I was out of luck and that was my problem. It was clear they didn't want to help, and that they view customers as single transactions and not future customers. I have happily bought from other mail order nurseries in years past without any issues. DON'T BUY FROM WILLIS NURSERIES OF GEORIA. Don't waste your time or money with Willis. You'll walk away disgusted and insulted after spending/giving away your money.

His account here is quite untrue. After listening to him curse and rant for five minutes because his two trees died, he was told "to have a blessed day". He then went on to lecture about not using religion in business. He was repeatedly told we would replace the trees, as we have agreed in our guarantee. He said he wasn't doing that. However, we will still replace the two small trees, despite his negative post. Even to wish a blessed day is considered wrong these days. Some people are so hostile that they won't allow you to help them. But we do try with all of our customers and are successful, say.....98% of the time. "

Three year-old grape plants arrived in impeccable shape, well rooted, perfectly pruned. Best quality plants and best price I could find anywhere. The man who runs our small farm recommended re-ordering more plants immediately.

When calling the toll-free number to re-order today, I got a real person on the phone within 2 rings (!). She checked on my growing area, and then gave me solid advice and actually suggested to consider ordering next season as it was getting a little late for planting !!!

For any company to take time dealing with small customers such as us posting here is commendable. For the ones lacking a green thumb or needing more hand-holding, maybe a visit to the local nursery may be the better option instead of using a mail-order nursery.

As far as Willis is concerned, I received 40 fantastic quality and sized plants, as well as some prompt, honest, professional, considerate, and well-informed advice. They do care about you having a great experience with them and with your plants.

Decent service, poor plants..

I ordered a persimmon tree, 5 raspberries, and 3 blueberries last year. Only 1 blueberry survived. I returned the others for replacement (at my cost) last fall. Early this spring Willis sent replacements. The blueberries were OK, but the persimmon and raspberries never showed any sign of life after a month, despite my careful handling. I called them back, and they sent another set of replacements still this same spring. 3/5 raspberries (planted outdoors) again never grew. Of the remaining 2/5 (which I planted indoors, under completely non-stressing conditions), one pushed it's buds and got little leaves, but these leaves eventually died, despite the zero stress conditions. It never had any root growth, and the emerging shoots could not be supported and died. The final raspberry is limping along, but growth is very slow. I'm still waiting on the 3rd persimmon (also indoors)-- no buds have pushed (it also had virtually no root system). Not optimistic about it.

So, overall survival tally:
Blueberries: 3 out of 5
Raspberries: 1 (tentatively) out of 15
Persimmons: 0 out of 3 (probably)

To their credit, Willis has stood by their replacement guarantee. But with plants like the ones i've gotten, what does it matter?

I won't order from them again.

We ordered 420 blue berry plants and were scheduled to pick them up on a Saturday which is a day that they are not open to the public. They asked us to be there by 2 P.M. which was fair enough. Little did I know, spring break started that weekend and Georgia Department of Transportation decided to do road work in 4 different locations. Long story short. After a 91 MPH speeding ticket to make up time and still not getting there when I needed to.( At about 6 P.M. we arrived.) The owner met us at the gate, helped us load, gave us tips on different things we needed to know, and did it all without any complaints. If that isn't good business, I don't know what is. All of the trees have leafed out and the mature trees have all bloomed. Some are now producing fruit. Half of the berry plants have leafed out and some I am still waiting on. I have read several negative comments concerning Willis, but I have been pleased. There have been times when I did not know when the trees might be shipped, but each time I simply called and each time they very nicely told me when I could expect them and each time I received them within 24 to 48 hours. I have dealt with Willis twice now. I am a balcony gardener and a beginner, and I like to grow my own produce -- not a huge garden, but I populate it with the more expensive or hard-to-find fruits I like to eat often.

My first order with Willis I placed in the summer of 2008. I ordered a 2-2.5 foot brown turkey fig, a fall gold raspberry plant, and a blueberry plant. The fall gold was not shipping until late summer/early fall, so I knew I would have to wait until then for my plants. Standard nursery procedure. Didn't bother me.

About a week after I placed my order a Willis representative contacted me and asked if I already had a blueberry plant. I didn't, and he informed me that my blueberry wouldn't produce unless it had another blueberry to cross-pollinate with. Not only was he knowledgeable about the best pollinators for the type I had ordered, he spent time going over all the rest of the plants in my order telling me what sort of soil, sunlight, water requirements, overwintering procedures for our crazy southeast VA weather, and habits for each. I listened intently with a pen and paper in hand taking notes! He likely saved my plants that winter.

All of my plants arrived promptly in September. The fig was at least a foot taller than I expected, branched, and beautifully pruned into a tree. The blueberries were also much larger than I expected, and my fall gold had beautiful deep red bark and was sprouting new leaves.

They overwintered fine, and are now growing like crazy. I pruned all of the plants a few weeks ago and my blueberries have already put back on half a foot of growth and are leafing and branching, the fall gold is doing the same, and the fig (a heat wave brought it out of dormancy, and a march snowstorm and 10F temps killed the branches) was pruned down to a stick to get back to live wood, but it's already putting out new branches and leaves as well. I potted it in a 16" pot so I can bring it in during inclimate weather from now on.

My latest order was placed in early March for a dwarf meyer's lemon. I got the tree yesterday, and it is an absolutely gorgeous TREE. I have it potted so it can stay indoors and go out during the warm season, and so I can bring in when the lemons set so the birds won't get them. Already my whole apartment smells heavenly. The roots were healthy, it had tons of leaves and flowers and the very beginning buds of tiny lemons. The roots on this tree were literally almost untouched. Like they took a paint brush to remove the dirt and send it bareroot. I have noticed that when care is applied to keep the roots undisturbed, the plants don't seem to go through transplant shock. I am hoping that is true of this tree since it has been 24 hours and it hasn't dropped any foliage.

I will definitely order from Willis again. The people are nice, knowledgeable, and based on my experience and my asking 425783498575723758934752 questions whenever I call (only to have the rep go out of their way to be helpful, and listen and answer questions patiently for 20 minutes) I just find some of these customer service issues hard to believe. My experiences were nothing less than stellar.

From these orders, 1 pecan, 1 plum and both magnolias died, and 5 out of 6 brambles died. All off those that died had insubstantial roots, except for the magnolias which were well rooted. After returning the dead plants at my own cost, I received better replacements in December (as well as two very large magnolias). When I called in Nov., the customer rep was nice and told me to expect replacement trees in Dec or Jan.

Although in my experience I certainly don't think Willis deserves the TyTy comparisons, I doubt I'll order from them again because I've gotten much better stock, with a much higher survival rate, from other companies (albiet for a higher cost and without a 1 year guarantee,). They honored their replacement policy, so I won't give them a negative. If rock bottom prices were paramount, then maybe I'd probably order from them again.

I have ordered from Willis twice in the past. The first two orders were okay.. The most recent horrible.

Order #1 - Ordered ahead of time and set a requested delivery date. They hit the delivery date as requested, but did not send to the correct address, despite a phone call confirmation that they would not use the default paypal address. Oh well, that was easy to overcome, I knew the new tenants of my old home.

On their order page they sell high bush blueberry plants. They advertise four or five varaties, but you can't order them specifically, only "highbush blueberries".. So, i ordered 15 of them and requested 3 varaties, five of each.. They came unmarked. I called and asked.. "yes, we assure you there are three different varaties in your package".. go figure.

2nd order. No problems.

3rd order. This is the current order. I just called and spoke with some women on the phone. I asked for an update on my order. She stated (without asking for any of my information, or introducing herself) that orders ship in 10-14 days. I said, "great, please give me an update on MY order".. Once again same stock answer. I pressed for more info, and was told to stop hollering at her. Customer service rating of F-.

Once I cooled down I called back to cancel my order, and was informed that I would be charged a restocking fee. I said, if they are pulled THEN SHIP THEM.. But, they haven't been pulled. So, how can I be recharged to stock something that hasn't left stock. I am infuriated and frustrated.

The woman said she doesn't have a boss. Don't know her name. Truly a terrible experience.

I made a fairly sizable order from Willis a few weeks ago: 8 apple trees, 4 pecan trees, 3 blackberry plants, 2 grapevines and a raspberry. They arrived Saturday a week ago and for the most part, everything was in excellent shape. The blackberries were the first things I saw and one at least *had* to be older than the 2-year plant I ordered given the size of the base and roots. The apples, grapes, and raspberry were all fine and I planted them in the spots I'd prepared. When I came to the pecans, however, I was disappointed to see that one of the four 2-3' trees I'd ordered had a taproot that was only 8" long. A pecan that size should have had a minimum of 12", preferably 16-18" taproot. Given that the rest of the order was in good shape, I started to plant it anyway. However, while doing so, I decided that if the tree died, or grew slower than the other three that had longer taproots (almost certain to happen), I'd just fume about it and wish that I'd fixed the problem from the outset.

I took a photo of the four trees laying side-by-side to show the disparity in the size of the taproots. I mailed that photo to Willis with a note about why I was unhappy. The following day, 'Shannon' replied to my email apoligizing for the inconvenience and indicating a replacement tree would be shipped out shortly. That tree arrived by FedEx this evening and has a taproot of reasonable size.

I don't expect any company I deal with to be perfect. However, so long as they accept responsibility for errors and work to make things right, that's perfectly acceptable to me. I'd buy from Willis again.

Replacing a certain percentage of trees is just part of being in the nursery business and we have no problem whatsoever doing so. Every one of our customers that make a claim for replacement trees is given a replacement. But, we replace the trees at a time that is best for our customer to have a successful planting. We received a money order for $150.94 from Geno Cupp on Nov. 18th, the Thursday prior to Thanksgiving. It takes a few days to deposit checks. We only had two shipping days before the holiday and have hundreds of orders in front of Cupp's. The Monday after the holidays he calls demanding trees or money back, just going crazy. We mailed a refund check the following day. He kept calling until he received his check. A freak show that I don't wish on my competitors."

I ordered a lot of different fruit trees and fruit plants from Willis (or Paradise Palm). They came in well packaged and moist but all was small whips and all the roots was cut off to the main root. When I contacted them about my concern they would not survive, they said they replace any that failed in the first year. I only had a few vine plants to fail and they were promply replaced.

I reciently place an order with Willis Orchards and within 2 weeks I recieved my order as requested in time for fall planting. All the trees, berries, and grapes were of the proper size or larger than expected and well packaged. I would recommend Willis Orchards to anyone who wants to deal with REAL PEOPLE who do what they say and when they promise to have it done.

Many of the trees I ordered failed to break their dormant phase, a few started to grow but quickly died, one survived. I found the warranty worthless. I followed all the instructions, mailing the plants and invoice to the supplied PO Box. I inquired how my case was being handled only to be told they had no record of my order. I will place my next order with Burnt Ridge Nursery, the plants I bought from them were larger and have nearly a 100% success rate.

Willis Orchard sent replacements for my trees on Dec 17; I felt better after a local nurseryman said they could still be planted successfully through Dec. On Dec 19th the ice melted and the ground thawed so they are in the ground. As insurance I added a bit of rooting hormone to each of them,

Received three apple trees today. Well packaged & in good condition. Leery ordering from any online vendor the first time but I will be ordering more in the spring as this appears to be a reputable company.

Although I was late in planting these trees (already had snow and extremely cold temps in WV where these were planted) they are now leafed out and doing well.

I have received two orders from Willis within the specified time period and to my satisfaction. I have two more coming as I see no reason this can't turn into a satisfactory long-term relationship. I have no trouble getting them on the phone, or by email.( A prior experience with a company in GA had made me initially hesitant.)

I would like to pass on an experience that I had with Willis Orchard Company. I completed a purchase of three blueberry plants and the plants that were sent were one size smaller than I had ordered. I e-mailed the company, voiced my complaint, and an unexpected thing happened. Willis Orchard made no attempt to give you the runaround, owned up to the mistake with an apology, and compensated me the difference in price with product. I actually came out ahead in the deal. It is exceptionally rare these days that a company in any industry ”puts THEIR money where their mouth is” in their customer service Department. I would recommend this company to anyone who is buying shipped plants and I admire the honest“down home” customer service that I received........Thank you

Ordered 12 pecan trees this past spring. Only one lived. When I called the company didn't get much help. Must send trees back , at our expense, with receipt and credit card receipt.
