I have to admit I was impressed with that level of attention. For the record, the B'wines arrived tonight finally and they appeared to be in OK shape. I'll harden them for the next few days and then into the Earthbox with them. Both varieties of pepper (sweet and poblano) are doing really well as are the tomandes. I pulled the big boys out of the sun for a few days and it appears as it they're looking to mount a rally. It looks like it's curtains for the San Remo, though. Nothing that was seeded except for jalapenos grew and that's using the Ultimate Growing System. Based solely on the level of customer service that Burpee provided and the willingness to make things right, I feel comfortable in changing my rating from negative to neutral. |

The plants came enclosed in a plastic case. The plants were stressed, maybe they got to hot inside that plastic case? I followed Burpees directions to add some luke warm water and to let them sit for 24-48 to recover from shipping. The plants are doing fine! But, I order live rose and shrubs/plants alot from other companies and they are not stressed when they arrive. I think Burpee needs to take a second look at there plastic greenhouse case they are using for shipping live plants in and develop another better method of shipping there live plants. Sorry Burp, but I've moved on to companies that show me some respect. On May 1, 2010, Burpee (W. Atlee Burpee) responded with: "On May 24, 2010 2:06 PM, Burpee (W. I was contacted by a representative of Burpee's about a week after posting my review. She was very helpful and assured me that they would follow up with my replacement plants. I pleased with their willingness to work with me. I received an email notification last week that my items were being shipped. I was a little concerned that it was going to take 8 days to arrive to me. However when the replacement raspberry canes arrived, they looked to be in good condition, nice large roots and still moist. I soaked them in a seaweed solution prior to planting them the same day. The plants are still dormant so I am hoping that they will do well this year. Other then the shipping time, I am very pleased with Burpee. I have changed my rating from neutral to positive because they keep their word and the plants they sent appeared to be high quality. |

Prices just keep going up and S/H went up as well. I understand that everything has gone up but Burpee was already the highest (out of the companies I purchase from anyway) as it was and I just don't have the funds for this. I have my 2010 catalog, and was ready to place my order, but once again, my seed order will cost over well $10 in shipping costs!! This is ridiculous, for 8-10 packages of SEEDS, sent first class mail from a local business (about 40 min. by car from us). And we will pay PA sales tax, too, which we totally understand, but it still adds to the total. And since most of the seed packets are about $4, for sometimes 16-20 seeds, it becomes quite an unjustifiable expense, no matter how much I want the seeds that are only available by catalogue. Last year's shipping charge was about $8, and the postage was less than $2. I understand that there are handling costs, but come on! When I posted last year, I received a response from a Burpee rep saying that they would be making changes for next year (2010), but apparently not. Very disappointing. |

They have had some very nice and unique introductions (those white marigolds!!). Love the Sweet Tangerine tomato and will try this years introduction Tye-Dye. I ordered for the first time last year and got everything I ordered and they were all true. I am a Master Gardner and have been doing this for many years. Nice to find a company I can trust. Most of the troubles people seem to have with Catalog companies are when ordering plants. I only order seeds and buy plants locally. Great Seeds, Great Service, beautiful Catalog. |
| Positive | marylanddoc (2 reviews) | On Jan 2, 2010, marylanddoc Baltimore, United States wrote: Had a nice experience lately with this company. I ordered a couple small items and as with all seed companies I am appalled by the shipping charges. However, two days later I wanted to add another small packet to my order. I wrote them a note to see if they could include the packet with the first order and save the additional shipping fee. The first order had already been sent but I received a nice note that they would ship it separately without an added fee. I was pleasantly surprised. |

I grow mostly from seed and my favorite lettuce variety of theirs is the "Simpson Elite". It has performed excellently over the years. I got a very nice response the next day and would order from them anytime. |
| Positive | JC_In_MI (1 review) | On Dec 17, 2009, JC_In_MI Birmingham, MI wrote: I was really surprised at all the negative comments about Burpee. I ordered live tomato plants for summer 2009. They were beautifully packed, but one plant in the container was broken. I emailed customer service, and they promptly mailed me an entirely new package of plants at no charge. I didn't lose a single plant during the wet/cool weather, although most of my neighbors lost their tomato plants to the blight that was so prevalent last summer. I also ordered Burpee's tomato cages, and they are the best things I've ever purchased from any garden catalog or retail garden supply house. They fold flat for storage and are so sturdy that they will last for several seasons. They still look brand new. I will continue to order from them. |
| Positive | drdavidson (1 review) | On Nov 28, 2009, drdavidson Oxon Hill, MD wrote: Two years ago I purchased Plum and Big Boy plants for my small 10 foot by 2 foot patch. I received a moderate amount of tomatoes, the 2nd year, I planted the same, after regenerating the space, and doubled my crop. This year, I purchased the same and within 3 weeks they started producing tomatoes. I have had a bumper crop. I can eat them off the vine, but have furnished others with this succulent red produce. Now, it is a few days until December and I just harvested more ripe tomatoes, with more on the vines. I know I am about to harvest what is left and have some great "fried green tomatoes". Next year I will start again and see if I can best this years 7 month production. |

When I complained to Burpee about this, they were so kind as to replace the 3 tomato plants that were destroyed in shipping. The new shipment came within days and it was fine. I am a happy gardener this time and will continue to shop with you. I think Burpee should seek other shipping options besides United Parcel Service. | Positive | nathanhamm (1 review) | On May 28, 2009, nathanhamm Leavenworth, KS wrote: I just received 9 tomato plants and 6 pepper plants. Most arrived in good shape in the green packages that kept the plants from moving around too much. The Pinot Noir peppers, however, lost most of their leaves, and some of the tomatoes looked a bit tired out. It all looks like it will bounce back with a bit of care, and if this foray into mail-ordered plants turns out well, I'll give it another whirl next year. On May 28th, 2009, nathanhamm changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following: On second thought... I checked on the plants again today. The Pinot Noir and Ancho peppers are looking fairly good, and the Black Truffle tomatoes are recovering nicely as well. However, both the Sugar Snack and Tomande tomatoes are starting to look like salad that has been left on the counter for a week. I don't know if that's because leaves got caught and smashed in the packaging or if these just don't handle shipment well, but they're looking like a loss. On June 4th, 2009, nathanhamm changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: Customer service got in touch with me and were great.
