And, as always, their personal notes made me feel like a
special customer. Not only did the cannas that they sent me
keep me "entertained all summer", they are still
entertaining. After getting them started in small pots, I
transplanted them to large clay pots and put them on
display around our pool. They started to bloom in July and
have never quit!

These folks (and Charlie) know what they are doing!!

I ordered several types tulips, a rare tulip sampler, and Scott's fall garage sale sampler. What I received in the samplers is amazing, both in the bulbs they chose, and in the sheer amount of bulbs I recieved! I even ended up getting a beautiful tulip I had been dying to have but I had not ordered due to the cost. It was part of one of the samplers!

I was a bit worried about receiving my shipment, as I got their newsletter, which said that their last shipping day was coming up, and I had yet to recieve my bulbs. I called the company, and they were very personable and let me know when my bulbs shipped, and told me to call back if I didn't get them in a few days.

As it happened, the bulbs were waiting for me when I got home from work.

I also love the personal touch OHG has. There was a nice, cheerful note on my invoice. You can't get any better than these guys!

I decided to tell them about the daffodils that I attempted to force indoors, but had no luck. Immediately they responded, suggesting that I could have a credit or refund. Since the bulbs were still good, I didn't bother to follow-up. I figured I would just plant them outside in the fall. But about 8 weeks later, I received a phone call saying they were going to send me a refund! What service!

After a discussion with Denise, I accepted the credit towards some new bulbs -- this time with her helpful advice.

OHG really wants to please their customers. I strongly recommend them.

I was astounded by the size and quality of the bulbs, and the flowers which bloomed this spring. The comparison charts in their catalog and on their website made it easy to plan the planting to accommodate plant height and timing as well as color. I had new blossoms to anticipate for nearly four months! In addition to ordering specific bulbs, I also ordered several Garage Sale Samplers. Opening them is truly like Christmas in October, because of the diversity of the bulbs that are included. (If you order more than one sampler, it expands the choices, because the orders are hand-assembled and you won’t get three boxes that are the same.) They also give you several alternatives if they are unable to fill your order completely due to crop failure or other issues. Here are my two favorites: they will substitute if you give them permission (always with increased value) or issue a credit slip plus 10%. Their website is very easy to navigate and full of web-only specials, and they respond promptly to e-mails. Phone conversations have also been helpful, and the personal notes included in the order are a bonus! Their e-mail newsletters are also a great read and have links to other fascinating sites. (The shared communication with a relative of Irene Copeland was one of the best.) I would highly recommend OHG; superior products and superior service--and did I mention how beautiful their catalog is?

I am a long time (more than 10 years) customer. I could echo many of the other comments about excellent service, integrity, a commitment to preservation of old varieties, etc but I thought I might add to the list of OHG virtues.

1) The bulbs are guaranteed to be the variety that is advertised or else your money will be refunded. If you collect certain bulbs or are trying to duplicate something you saw in a book, you know how frustrating it is to think you have ordered the right variety only to receive a "close" substitute without any indication until it blooms.

2) The bulbs arrive in excellent and pristine condition. Never have I found a hint of mold on any bulbs received from OHG.

I received my first order from this company today. I am very impressed by the size of the bulbs. They arrived just in time for Fall planting with plenty of instructions and detailed instructions; not just your run-of-the-mill. The packaging was first rate. I have no doubt these bulbs will flourish providing the critters don't get them but, i plan to use some netting for precaution. I also received some unusual books - titles I have never seen before and some history about heirloom plants. It looks like these people bend over backwards to please the customer.

OHG is the best in the business. When my "Surprise" dahlia failed to grow last summer, I mentioned it in my spring order and they replaced it, free of charge. Called them up w/some questions and Scott was patient, helpful, and informative. If only all gardening businesses were like this one. Great bulbs, out-of-this-world customer service, and reasonable prices (for antiques!).

I just love this company. I have placed both fall and summer orders for many years, and always look forward to receiving the box - it's like getting a present from an old friend. I particularly enjoy the surprises I get with Scott's garage sale samplers. Even when things don't thrive (I'm often not the most careful gardener, and persist in trying to coax sun lovers to bloom in my shady little corner of the mountains), it's still a joy to try them out. I usually get totally spectacular results. The elephant ear from last year that I carelessly tossed in a box in the basement for the winter couldn't wait to push out new foliage when I put it out in the spring and is positively huge. Many of last summer's cannas that I never got around to digging up not only overwintered with no special care, but made really big clumps and are blooming their hearts out. None of my big box hardware store cannas have ever done that!

As a real afficionado of heirlooms, I find their catalog to be a useful resource. In fact, I still have all of them in a file! I also save their e-bulletins. I also enjoy their reprints of antique bulb catalogs and the reproduction forcing vases they offer. They're beautiful!

Finally, every company should have a corporate cat like Charlie. I feel I know all the folks at OHG, especially Scott and I count them among my treasured friends even though I've yet to meet them in person.

I rec'd my replacement bulbs a few weeks ago. I have to say that they are HUGE!! The customer service folks who work for this company have always been so kind, courteous and helpful to deal with. I love their little personal notes they write on the order forms; makes me feel that they really value me as a customer. I wish more businesses were like this.

When making my purchase last fall, I had to call them when I thought my plants had not arrived. I later found out that the post office had them, but never got back to Old House Gardens to let them know. They mailed me a handwritten letter, wanting to confirm that my bulbs arrived, and seemed to genuinely care that I received them. When I called to confirm, they were also happy to answer questions I had about planting the bulbs a little late.

I was very impressed with the quality of bulbs that arrived and their wonderful customer service, and I would recommend them to anyone.

I always enjoy receiving my bulb orders from OHG, both for the bulbs I ordered (always healthy and fat) and for any of the bulbs I may have suggested as substitutes (usually they send extras!). I especially enjoy the personal touch their orders receive and the very welcome planting details provided. I've found their bulbs to be of the highest quality and the flowers from the bulbs to be the best colors. I would recommend them to anyone.
