Not only are their bulbs rare, but their passionately personalized service is also. With every order, some human touch decrees that i am a special customer - and I would guess that tens of thousands of other satisfied folks would say the same. The bulbs are perfect, no duds, and everyone at the company is superb. Support these people! They are magnificent. |

Each order has come carefully packed with top-sized bulbs, and with notes from Scott, the owner, that make me realize he is always aware he is selling his bulbs to people who could be his friends, in addition to being his customers. In other words, he wants to give you his best. One year, some lilies did not perform for me in my garden--it might have been my own fault for neglecting to follow the very complete instructions that come with each order, but no questions were asked when I mentioned it to the employee I spoke to on the phone as I placed a subsequent order. I was immediately given credit for those lilies. I can't let a season go by without ordering from Old House. They are the greatest! |

I received it well packaged, with a wealth of information and a personal, handwritten note from the owener, Scott. Like I said in a note with my order, I only wish I could afford more! The bulbs are in perfect condition and I can't wait to see them in the spring. I will have to place my order with these guys first next year so that I have more $$ to spend with them. They are expensive, but SO worth it. I only wish that I had ordered more, and now they are sold out of many that I wished I had ordered...I've already placed my order for Spring bulbs. I will be a repeat customer, and I have already recommeded this company to other people, even before I had ordered! |

The bulbs themselves are always high quality, and the varieties available are tremendous fun. Now our local Historical Society is graced with OHG bulbs each spring, with plans afoot to add more. I wholeheartedly recommend OHG to anyone who loves flowers, history, or both. |

| Positive | Garden_Musician (1 review) | On Oct 21, 2005, Garden_Musician Butler, PA wrote: This is the second year that I've ordered spring-flowering bulbs from OHG, having discovered them through a newspaper article. I was astounded by the size and quality of the bulbs, and the flowers which bloomed this spring. The comparison charts in their catalog and on their website made it easy to plan the planting to accommodate plant height and timing as well as color. I had new blossoms to anticipate for nearly four months! In addition to ordering specific bulbs, I also ordered several Garage Sale Samplers. Opening them is truly like Christmas in October, because of the diversity of the bulbs that are included. (If you order more than one sampler, it expands the choices, because the orders are hand-assembled and you won’t get three boxes that are the same.) They also give you several alternatives if they are unable to fill your order completely due to crop failure or other issues. Here are my two favorites: they will substitute if you give them permission (always with increased value) or issue a credit slip plus 10%. Their website is very easy to navigate and full of web-only specials, and they respond promptly to e-mails. Phone conversations have also been helpful, and the personal notes included in the order are a bonus! Their e-mail newsletters are also a great read and have links to other fascinating sites. (The shared communication with a relative of Irene Copeland was one of the best.) I would highly recommend OHG; superior products and superior service--and did I mention how beautiful their catalog is? |

The bulbs arrived with a handwritten note reminding me that they are Happy to answer my questions, with or without an order. The directions which came with my gorgeous, obviously hand-picked bulbs, were Thorough & Excellent. I mean The Best I've ever seen. OHG also invites Your advice, a practice I find both humble & wise. In addition, the history offered on each bulb is fascinating. The catalog is a gardening primer in & of itself (plus Gorgeous). Can't wait to see my Spider Lillies in bloom. These folks are the Best! It doesn't get any better. |

Scott and his staff are absolutely passionate in their "calling" and this shows with what they offer, the catalog, pricing, support and so on. I especially like that they offer bulbs that are unusual, rare or not so popular with the "big guys." This gives us an unusual garden and helps preserve some of the past. |

I was just interviewed for a feauture article in our local (Lincoln NE Journal Star) Sunday home and garden section about bulbs. I talked endlessly about OHG and their wonderful catalog and bulbs because I have NEVER had such a positive experience with a mail order source! The customer service is truly incredible, the staff knowledgeable and will do anything to promote customer satisfaction. And their selection and the quality of their product is beyond compare. Order from them once and you'll be hooked! They are THE BEST!!! I only wish I could afford to buy EVERYTHING in their catalog!!! But there is always NEXT year! |

They arrived just in time for Fall planting with plenty of instructions and detailed instructions; not just your run-of-the-mill. The packaging was first rate. I have no doubt these bulbs will flourish providing the critters don't get them but, i plan to use some netting for precaution. I also received some unusual books - titles I have never seen before and some history about heirloom plants. It looks like these people bend over backwards to please the customer. |
| Positive | badger1 (4 reviews) | On Sep 28, 2005, badger1 Platteville, WI wrote: Great company, great product. My Kidd's Climax (dahlia) has just begun blooming and is absolutely stunning! Lovely color, huge flowers (8+ inches across and counting!) and the plant itself, despite a very droughty and hot summer, looks very sturdy. Awesome customer service and feedback. Every time I email w/a question, they're right on it. On May 1st, 2006, badger1 added the following: OHG is the best in the business. When my "Surprise" dahlia failed to grow last summer, I mentioned it in my spring order and they replaced it, free of charge. Called them up w/some questions and Scott was patient, helpful, and informative. If only all gardening businesses were like this one. Great bulbs, out-of-this-world customer service, and reasonable prices (for antiques!). |

I have been buying bulbs from them for a few years now, and my garden is a joy because of it! If they think something might be wrong with the order, they contact you! Besides the unquestionable quality of their bulbs, doing busines with OHG is dealing with real human beings who have a personal stake in the company--very different from dealing with a large, impersonal company. I have heard Scott lecture, and his enthusiasm for his mission is contagious. |

I have placed both fall and summer orders for many years, and always look forward to receiving the box - it's like getting a present from an old friend. I particularly enjoy the surprises I get with Scott's garage sale samplers. Even when things don't thrive (I'm often not the most careful gardener, and persist in trying to coax sun lovers to bloom in my shady little corner of the mountains), it's still a joy to try them out. I usually get totally spectacular results. The elephant ear from last year that I carelessly tossed in a box in the basement for the winter couldn't wait to push out new foliage when I put it out in the spring and is positively huge. Many of last summer's cannas that I never got around to digging up not only overwintered with no special care, but made really big clumps and are blooming their hearts out. None of my big box hardware store cannas have ever done that! |

Not only do they have a wonderful assortment of bulbs, tubers and growing things, they have a delightful personal touch. I have especially enjoyed growing dahlias from them. They offered advice on storing the toes to overwinter which would, of course, have cut into the amount I would be buying from them, so you have to applaud their class act. I heartily endorse OHG products and people! |

| Positive | liverbird (1 review) | On Jul 29, 2005, liverbird Tarrytown, NY wrote: I've been ordering bulbs from Old House Gardens for ten years or so now, and have always found it to be a very positive experience. Their catalog is always interesting and informative, and their service friendly and helpful, with a very personal touch. Their bulbs are always top quality and far more interesting than anything I've found elsewhere; many of the older varieties are more scented and hardy, and to my mind at least, look more at home in the gardens of older houses than the modern versions, and allowing me, for example, to grow a variety of lily that I know my grandfather grew. OHG is very conscientious about selling the true plant, and bulbs that turned out to be mislabelled are replaced, as are those which didn't grow well. We did do a little experiment one year, accidentally ordering the same variety of snowdrops from both OHG and another well-known catalog- the ones from OHG are still spreading happily, the others disappeared without a trace. They may sometimes be a little more expensive than other catalogs, but I have always found it to be worth the difference. |

The company gives solid guidance on the experience of othe gardeners in various areas of the US and presents straightforward information on bulb characteristics and temperature/soil tolerance. I am impressed by their willingness to sacrifice a sale if the quality of a bulb is deficient and to make right any problems which might arise. The staff is warmly courteous and informative via phone and the website is user-friendly. |

| Positive | bigrock (7 reviews) | On Apr 11, 2005, bigrock Marion, MA wrote: I received my spring order (dahlias, glads) and the bulbs came in great condition. Unfortunately, they were unable to ship one of my 3-bulb gladiolus orders ("Dauntless") due to a crop failure. The company credited me with the price of the bulbs plus 10% extra for my trouble, PLUS added 3 gladiolus bulbs of another type. Now, that's what I call customer service. This kind of service is quite rare, I believe, and a wonderful surprise. I'm already compiling my list for the bulbs I will order from them in the fall. In my opinion, Old House Gardens is tops. |
