Comments regarding New Hampshire Hostas

I placed an order with NH Hostas and received an immediate confirmation. The next day I wished I had ordered an additional hosta. I emailed them to see if it was too late to add to the order as I did not want to reorder just one plant and incur the minimum shipping charge again. I was pleased that they accepted the additional order to be combined with the original order with no additional shipping charge.

When the order arrived, the additional hosta I had added to my original order was not included. I emailed them about the error and they responded that they would resolve immediately.

True to their response, the missing hosta arrived a few days later.

I definitely give them a 5-star Plus rating for EXCELLENT customer service!

All the plants arrived in great shape in excellent packaging. I will be using them again whenever I want to add to my hosta collection.

First experience ordering and won't be my last. This is a recommended site on the Hosta database which is how I got to it. Ordered 5 small-mini hostas late in the season i couldn't find locally or on other sites. All arrived in great condition with no indication of the summer uglies. Shipment was well packed with plenty of moisture in the packing to keep them healthy.

Can't recommend NH Hostas highly enough, I ordered some Halcyon hostas as a test run of sorts and they were on my doorstep four days later in perfect condition ready for fall planting. They're priced very reasonably as well especially given their caliber of customer service and clearly strive to make every transaction a positive experience. I'll certainly be ordering from them again! Thanks and happy gardening from Chicago.

I bought 2 relatively common hostas and the price seemed a bit excessive until I got the plants in the mail. They looked amazing! The roots systems were the size of 1 or 2 gallon plants even though they listed them as being 4 inch pots. I live in Texas so they had to ship bare root. They were very well wrapped and packaged and showed no signs of stress despite it being almost June. I have more plants on the way and i hope they will be as amazing

Recently received three hostas from NH Hostas for the first time. Plants were quite a bit larger than I expected, all well packaged and promptly shipped. Planted them the next day and they're all looking super healthy a few weeks later!

This is a too-long-delayed review of NH Hostas, from whom I've been ordering hostas for several years with never a disappointment. Last year they expanded their 'companion plants' section and I took advantage of a sale by ordering several Amsonia 'Storm Cloud' because I loved the shade of blue on the plant I already had. I was delighted beyond measure to receive such large healthy plants (having experienced bitter disappointment in so-called "sale" plants from another nursery) that were 3x as large as the two Storm Cloud that I'd ordered a few months earlier at full price from a very well-known nursery south of me (New Hampshire is north of where I am.) All of the hostas that I have ever bought from NH have done remarkably well even in my less-than ideal conditions. My only problem is that I'm running out of planting areas that don't get blasted by full sun all day long, LOL!!

I ordered two Epimedium plants. These shade-loving bushes are not available in my local area, and are difficult to find online. I placed my order in December, and NH Hostas rewarded me with a discount. The plants arrived today and were securely packaged in damp newspaper and padded with a lot of newspaper. They both arrived in excellent condition: green-leaved and cheery. I recommend NH Hostas and would purchase anything that I can from them in the future.

We have ordered from NH hostas several times and never been disappointed. We have had some interesting experiences with the plants since we live in Arkansas and they are coming from a cooler area. Several hostas we thought we lost one year have reappeared the next year hale and hearty. I believe they just needed to get used to their climate change. I always advise people who admire our garden to order from them.

I’ll let everyone else tell you how great NH Hostas hostas are, but I want to comment on their companion plant plugs. I had never order plugs before and had a great experience with them. TBH, I didn’t really know exactly what I was ordering last year so I’ll describe a plug for people in a similar situation. It’s not a bare root or something you have to put faith into when you plant. It’s basically a very healthy, developed plant the size you would expect to get in a quart pot, just without the pot and most of the soil. Very simple.

And they thrive. I’ve purchased huchera, hellebore, Martagon lily and ferns. All looked great when I planted them late last summer and all have returned and look great so far this year.

What more could you ask for?

I received my second order from New Hampshire Hostas (one in 2023 and one 2024). I am super impressed with the quality of their plants and top notch customer service. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone.

I just received the hosta I ordered in January from NH Hostas. I bought a Hosta 'Mini Skirt'. I am in zone 7, so my own hostas are just sprouting pips, and the delivery date was quite reasonable. H. 'Mini Skirt' is a mini, and the plant they sent has 11 leaves in wonderful condition. I continue to be thrilled by the quality of hostas I get from New Hampshire Hostas!

I have ordered Hosta from New Hampshire Hosta for the past few years. I was so surprised when my order arrived a couple of days ago. The weather must be especially nice in NH. All 5 of my plants look wonderful and healthy. One is barely out of the ground, but healthy. Love NHH!

I ordered 4 hosta starter plants before I realized they wouldn’t ship until late April. I live in GA and needed them much earlier than that or they wouldn’t survive. I emailed them, got a response hours later saying they would try to find some that were further along. Three days later, I received my hostas. They are in excellent shape and will go in their pots tomorrow. I’ve never had this kind of service with mail ordering plants. These people are great as far as I’m concerned. I considering expanding my types of hostas now because their service was excellent.

Just received two hostas from NH Hostas. Despite the post office taking 7 days to complete the delivery they were in amazing shape. Can’t wait to get them planted!

Excellent quality plants. Ordered 18 hard to locally find Hosta on Tuesday and received the shipment on on Friday. When I placed the order I mentioned that I had hoped to purchase a Catherine but while I dithered deciding on what others to get the Catherine became sold out. I mentioned this to the sales rep and he told me that he would send me one of the few extras that they had left. Ordering by mail is always a dicey proposition as you never know what will be sent. Each of the 18 plants are beauties, were well packed and in excellent shape. I look forward to planting them in my garden. I am a vert happy customer. Looking forward to ordering another batch next spring.

Exceptional plants--5-6 beautiful leaves, strong roots not root bound in 4 1/2-in pot, and arrived when expected. Definitely the best source for hostas. Will likely order companion plants too.

I just received my first order from NHH. I was a little put off when I saw the smallish box and then discovered they were bare root, and not the 4” pot as described. My fault for not paying attention to the fact that my state (Washington) requires bare root. But, upon opening the sturdy box, I found my plant to be securely packed with newspaper and individually wrapped in damp paper, and plastic around their very substantial roots. Leaves were beautiful and intact. After a couple of days being potted up, they haven’t missed a beat! I wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again. And indeed, I have quite a wish list “growing” on their website.

We received our first order from New Hampshire Hostas last week. We're located in Zone 9a north of Houston, TX, so our two hostas had to be shipped bare root. We were a little concerned about that, but both plants arrived in great condition. The Cathedral Windows and Tenryu were both larger than we expected and looked to be very healthy. They've both been planted and appear to be doing very well. We'll definitely be repeat customers.

I've been an advanced master gardener here in Michigan for nearly 30 years. I was in dire need of LARGE hosta to consume space and join other 70 some hostsa varietals brethren in our yard. I was impressed with the selection of hosta I wanted and took a flier on on NHH. This is the first time I ordered hosta on line. The 22 hosta (6 different varietals) arrived yesterday and we labored in 90°heat to plant immediately. Not only was the packaging environmentally friendly newsprint but the well rooted plants arrived undisturbed still in their pots and all of the soil was still in the pot. The delivery timing was perfect for planting and the healthy plants are now thriving in their new home.
