Were packages 1 ever shipped?? I double it since it has been 2 months since the first packages arrived. Even the Post Office isn't that slow. and if they are can you imagine what the plants will look like. |

I too have received moldy strawberry plants, perennials, and half-dead douglas fir trees. I am no expert with plants but what I saw disgusted me. I am in the process of filing a claim with the company, but after seeing earlier comments, am skeptical about the results. |

I thought my experience was "just me" but seems it is not. Early last year (1998) I ordered two plum trees from Farmer Seed & Nursery. No instructions came with the plants. They were shipped dormant dry-root. Not being very experienced, I just took them out of the packaging and plopped them in the ground. One of them never leafed out and the other grew a lot of suckers but the main plant never leafed. I always meant to but never contacted the company about this. I also ordered a birch tree for the front of the house. It is leafing out nicely and seems like it will survive the winter. I have had lots of good luck for several years with seeds from this company. It's just last year that I decided to try their plants for the first time. |

I placed a small order with them last February for two Asian pear trees and some perennials. The plants arrived in very poor condition; most did not survive even a month in the ground. At this point only one pear tree is alive -- it MAY make it through if we have a mild winter.I filed a claim (under $50) with FARMER SEED & NURSERY in July, but have received absolutely ZERO satisfaction from them. They are stonewalling me. They won't even process my claim unless I return the initial tattered shipping package -- the one in which some of the plants arrived moldy. I've offered to return the dead tree and plants and suggested that their sales records show what I ordered and what they shipped to me. They claim they have no such file, but somehow they have my name on their computer mailing list. I have filed a complaint with the BBB, but no answer yet. Meanwhile, I would encourage other gardeners to boycott FARMER SEED & NURSERY and PLANTRON until they get the message that customers should be treated fairly. When, if ever, FARMER SEED & NURSERY makes good on their product warranty and replaces their defective products or refunds my money, I will post a note to that effect here. Meanwhile, I suggest people look to more reliable sources for their mail order gardening products. |
