Because I have only a limited amount to spend, and mainly because I was so bedazzled by the many awesome choices available, I ultimately settled on 2 collections, the Oriental Hybrid Extravaganza and the Seaon of Bloom (a mix of Clumbia-Platte hybrids & various types). I ordered via e-mail - ordering is rather clumsy, as you can't order directly from their website (you can phone, e-mail, snail-mail or fax orders), and after a few days, just as I was getting ready to phone to confirm that my order had been received, they e-mailed me to let me know they were shipping in a couple of days. Excellent timing, friendly communications. On April 22nd, 2005, cathyb53 added the following: 4/22/05 - Once again, I have only the highest praise! This year I placed a more expensive order, and it again exceeded expectations. They e-mailed to ask if a substitute was OK, and what they substituted was much more expensive than what I had ordered. They included extras of several bulbs, and the size & condition of the bulbs was amazing. The ones I planted last year were absolutely incredible in their growth & flowering - husky, strong stems, flowers more beautiful than I had imagined, and their emerging growth this spring is again strong and healthy (as opposed to the puny look of some of my other repeating bulbs). |

One note, and it applies to ALL vendors, not just The Lily Garden--Lilies are slow in my garden, sometimes taking two full years from planting before they choose to debut. Don't give up hope if you don't see anything the first year unless you know you have a varmint problem. In my case, it's always been well worth the wait. Even the photos in their wonderful catalog do not do them justice.The Lily Garden gets my highest rating, A++++, for not only a mail order plant catalog but as a provider, bar none, of quality and also unique plants. Some of their bulb prices may seem high as compared to the ordinary lilies available from the general plant catalogs, but the final, exquisite flower is well worth every dollar and every minute spent working with them. Plus, the bulbs for most of the lilies are huge and fresh. There were NO mislabeled lilies in two orders totaling about $400.For weeks now, I have been planning my addition for next year from The Lily Garden. [update 9/2001] Their new catalog is now available. While quite good, the one I received seemed to have the color a little washed out or the photos were overexposed. So I use it with the older catalogs.Their catalog says that they guarantee all their bulbs that are planted promptly in the appropriate location. Somehow on a bad head day, I had determined this to mean that they would replace anything. They are an exceedingly good company for lilies but shouldn't be expected to refund all of our mistakes. |
