New Garden Plants

I have been buying plants from New Garden Plants for several years. A couple of times the plants did not match the description or the color. And on the last order, I bought two different varieties, and they turned out to be exactly the same. I had several email exchanges with Pete. He would NEVER admit that they made any mistake. He would NEVER give a credit or send a replacement. He adamantly insists that they did everything right. The guy is a nut case. I will not buy anything from him anymore.

I have ordered numerous plants from New Garden Plants for several years. I have always received carefully packaged, healthy plants. NGP has reasonable plant and shipping prices. I have been very pleased with the plants and customer service.

Every plant I’ve ever ordered from here was in bad condition and either died , or has taken forever to get established after being in such poor condition. Haven’t ordered from here at all this season due to plant conditions.

First time ordering, I was a bit leery due to the lack of reviews here but went all in on a big order because they had hybrid varieties I was looking for. Received my order quickly exactly the week I requested shipment and was amazed at the attention to detail in packing/shipping. Even more amazed at the healthy plants - only one was a bit small but ALL where thriving. Loved this order so much that I placed another one the day after receiving my order! Would definitely order again!

I have ordered quite a few plants from this nursery and most have been healthy. However, if you ever need a replacement, Peter always insists they're fine and to plant them and see if they grow. I recently place a large order and two of the plants were not healthy. When I requested a replacement, Pete told me they should not give me any issues. My concern with this company is that instead of acknowledging that there might be a problem with a plant, they insist that you try to baby them back to life. I would never have purchased these two plants if I had seen them in person unless they were on a clearance rack and then I would have thought it would be reasonable to spend the extra effort to make sure they survive. Always a fun challenge when buying a sale plant but not when I pay full price. Then I believe I should be getting my money's worth.

Ordered some Heuchera from Wisconsin but could not control ship date and they were sent the first of April. That was way too early this year to plant in east central Iowa. Fast forward to just after Mother's Day and I went on the hunt to replace the ones I couldn't keep alive. Found New Garden Plants on-line with the three colors I could not find locally. Not only did they still have some, but they were in quart pots and I could schedule the week I wanted to have them shipped. Order placed, plants received and VERY healthy. Time to plant. I ordered some plants from this company earlier in the spring. Most of them were ok, but, the clematis "florida seboldii" was not. It was just a clump of roots in a pot that never did ANYTHING, even after being babied in my greenhouse for a couple of months. I sent an email asking for a replacement or refund with no response. I'm giving them a negative review because it seems that they just don't respond if you have a problem.

Last year, I ordered about 10 Heucheras. All were delivered in good condition. This year, I ordered 4 more. I know that the phone is not a successful way to contact them, so I wrote an email inquiring when my order would be shipped. Pete responded to my email (order was placed a few weeks ago) and requested to be shipped 2nd week of May). I received a reply from Pete indicating that there was a crop failure and instead of shipping, my credit card was credited. At this point in the growing season, it is difficult to find the variety that I want either by email or through local nurseries. It would have been better if I had not had to inquire to receive this update. My take, after my limited experience: Give Pete a chance. This is a decent company with good prices and imperfect communications. I would order from them again, but would follow up sooner to Pete with an email asking if all is well with the order. I still remember the plants that I received that were in fine condition and at very competitive prices.

After an on line purchase, needed to speak with personnel. Over some 20 plus phone calls and 3 emails...Could not reach anybody nor leave messages !!! Food for thought.
