J & L Orchids

On November 27th I placed an order with J & L Orchids for 2 Encyclia garciana (order 2323). I received the 2 plants on December 1st but noticed immediately that one was shriveled and dehydrated. I unpotted the shriveled one and found that it had only 1 good root - the rest were rotted. Long story short, I promptly emailed J & L and they agreed to a 'partial' refund of $25 off the $35 purchase price and me keep the orchid. I let them know that I was not happy with the discount of $25 because I now had a rescue orchid that I would be paying $10 plus I had paid $33 to get overnight shipping which actually ended up being 2 day shipping. I would not have paid that much for shipping only 1 healthy plant and one rescue plant so I felt the least they could do was give a total refund as they admitted they knew back in the summer it was not well rooted but had assumed the roots had grown. Anyway - It is now January 24th and I still don't have a refund. I have emailed them numerous times and it is always the same story about how they are busy it is shipping day, they will look at it the next day, etc. I have finally given up. They didn't have any trouble processing the order and taking my money, but can't seem to get a refund completed. So, J&L order number 2323 is my first and last order with this company.

I ordered two orchids from this company,a stanhopea martiana and a Dendrochilum wenzelii both were healthy and well labeled.

J & L is one of the very best places to order miniature orchids (and especially orchids from the pleurothallid alliance, such as masdevallias). I've been ordering from them for many years, and have yet to receive a bad plant. The plants are always packed carefully, and shipped with plenty of protective insulation. I'll be ordering from them again, and again, and again...

I live nearby, and have shopped here in person. The greenhouse is very clean, absolutely no signs of disease or pests of any kind. The employees are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The plants I've bought here have been very healthy and vigorous. Prices are very reasonable.

An absolutely delightful assortment of unusual orchids- miniatures, terrestrials, etc. My orchids arrived with "protect from heat & cold" written on the outside of the box. A handwritten note was inside the box, telling me to unwrap plants carefully as one of them had 2, new delicate growths. The orchids were packed with extreme care. The orchids are/were healthy and happy. This place cares about the plants they grow.
