I love the Minnesota Arboretum! My husband and I went a week ago last Friday (May 23, 2008) and it was beautiful. Due to the late spring this year both the flowering crabs and the lilacs were in bloom.

When we moved to Minneapolis 8 years ago we took our camera and notebook to the Abortium to help in planning our garden. It is a wonderful place for learning and just enjoying nature.
It is an extension of the University of Minnesota's horticultural department so you can easily find a student to answer your questions. They have workshops and classes. Check it out if you have the chance.

Highly recommended. They have the most wonderful huge hanging baskets of flowers in summer, and have groves of well-grown trees and shrubs that can be used to plan your garden, as well as to just enjoy the scenery. I particularly like their greenhouse, with some unusual tropical and desert plants. They also have a very nice cafeteria, and you can eat out on their patio in the summer. Also, they offer various classes and events.
