Information on Bates Nursery & Garden Center

This is probably the largest garden center in Nashville. They have a great selection of trees and shrubs and a good selection of perennials. They also have annuals, vegetables and other items.

When we had water restrictions after the flood, they gave people free water from their pond. They only reason I don't give them five stars is their staff. Any time you have an operation as large as this, you will have staff members who are excellent and others who are punching the clock. The majority are good - if you get a "clock puncher" I suggest you look around and find another employee. Almost all the employee carry radios so you should be able to get someone. Their website will let you check their inventory - its not exact but it gives you an idea about their on hand stock. I don't think any other garden center in Nashville has that.

Bates is a gardeners dream. Honest people help you select plants that will work in your yard and garden. Each area has someone that knows that area and can explain the plants or find the plant you need. All plants are in excellent condition and ready to thrive when planted. They carry flowers, trees, and shrubs that no one else has heard of or has in stock. From seasonal plants to beautiful flower pots, houseplants to herbs, yard decorations to blueberry canes, Bates has it all.

I love this place. They have thousands of plants including many you just don't see at the Big Boxes. The staff is knowledgable and friendly. By far this is my favorite local nursery.
