Alameda Greenhouse & Nursery well worth the drive
I bought Green showers Ivy 2 years ago from Alameda Nursery. I planted in the fall, and in the spring the ivy did not seem to be responding as well as I had hoped. I dug 8 plants up and took them in for the Nursery to refund or replace. They promptly replaced my plants without complaint, which I went home and planted last late spring (2007) Now Sept 2008 I have the most glorious ivy growing all over the wall which was an unsightly 12' high cinderblock retaining wall... It has become the predominate feature in a small back yard which was the drawback to the house when we bought it, but is now delightful outdoor living space with living green privacy walls that invite you to relax outside.... I love this Nursery, they always stand behind their products, and are very knowledgeable about the New Mexico growing environment... it is family owned, the plants are loving nurtured and acclimatized to help them adapt to your yard. Highly recommend!!

I have bought most of my trees, perennials, and herbs from Alameda Greenhouse for the last ten plus years. Steve, the owner, and his staff are caring and knowledgeable. They have the best selection of tomato plants in the area plus are the only people to start celery around here. Every spring they will try some new experiment too---loofah, birds' nest gourds, etc. On two occasions when trees I bought at Alameda died, Steve has replaced them gratis (unlike his long-time competitor in the valley) and he volunteered to can up a couple of persimmon trees for me (they are hard to start from bare root) that I had bought mail-order!!! Although I start most of my own vegetables now, I recommend Alameda's annuals and vegetables wholeheartedly along with, of course, the landscape plants and trees.

This nursery raises bedding plants for many of the nurseries in New Mexico. It also has trees, shrubs, gardening supplies and what have you for gardens.
They have a fine supply of fresh bedding plants in the spring and the staff is friendly and helpful. It tends to be kind of a madhouse there in the bedding plant season because the biggest nursery in Albuquerque closed in 2006 leaving this grower to directly supply the needs of gardeners within a 100 mile radius of Albuquerque.
Still, it is a great place for bedding plants and for knowledgeable staff. It is so crowded that customers help each other as well, but that isn't an entirely bad thing.
There is a large variety of healthy bedding plants of all kinds and more being brought in all the time. Great place.
I found Alameda Greenhouses difficult to find the first time, so I telephoned for directions. Even with a map, it can be hard to find.
