Central City Market, in West Huntington, is located right in the antiques district. It is open all summer on Saturday mornings, and also on a couple of weekday mornings. But Saturdays are the time to be there, the earlier the better. The local farmers are there in force, with amazingly low prices on beautiful produce. I usually buy way more than I can cook, and then discover that I've still spent only a few dollars. You can also often buy hanging baskets and other plants, there are often recipe cards for free, and they have special events like pickle or salsa contests. The atmosphere is so down-to-earth, and I usually see many people I know doing the same thing as me. It's not as big or as comprehensive as the market in Charleston, but it has a wonderful home-town feel, and it's great to be able to support the farmers.
After buying produce, try some pie down the block at Central City Cafe.
