For the past several years I often drove by Forest Hills Nurseries simply to admire their beautiful selection of healthy, well-cared for trees. We bought our house in 2000 and finally began our garden this past spring (2006); so, we ordered 10 cubic yards of their outstanding pine/hemlock mulch with free delivery, as we live within close proximity of its location. If we had to guess, we're fairly confident we received a generous bonus beyond the amount we ordered.
We specifically opted for a pine/hemlock mix because cats don't like it and consequently won't eliminate in it. Some residents in our neighborhood support our local feral cat colonies; this said, the last thing we want in our new garden are beds any passing cat might find attractive. Other nearby nurseries carry cedar or pine at cost comparable to our pine/hemlock mix, and place much greater emphasis on its dyed color rather than its content or performance attributes.
Next spring we'll be ready to purchase an ornamental tree and will certainly purchase it from Forest Hills. In passing I mentioned to the owner, Ron, that I would like a small or dwarf-size flowering cherry and off the top of his head he named several cultivars. His face completely lit-up as he described "Snow Fountain", which sounds like the ideal flowering specimen tree for our small urban garden.
The people of Forest Hills are very friendly, easily accessible, and extremely knowledgeable ~ all the while in professional fashion. They allow the quality of their products coupled with their long-time seasoned expertise to speak for itself ~ no high pressure (or any degree of pressure) sales tactics here!
The old cliche of getting what one pays for doesn't apply here ~ we can personally attest to getting far more than what we paid for ~ all positive, and that Forest Hills will be our first source above all others.
