My first visit there was to purchase some fish, snails, and azolla. The greenhouse section was very interesting, as there was quite a variety of water plants that really must be seen in person to be appreciated - the photos in their catalogs, which are actually somewhat poor, do no justice to the actual colors of the blooms on most of these plants. However, as others have mentioned, the "showroom", or whatever you wish to call it, was dark, dreary, and dusty. Of course, this facility is well over 100 years old, so that is forgivable. The staff on this occasion was very helpful, and my purchase went through with no problems. However, I must say that, after only a week, all of the fish that I purchased had died. Initially, I chalked it up to the water in the pond. After getting a few of the same variety of fish from a nearby aquarium store (for much cheaper), and having them survive with no problems, I realized that that it wasn't my pond. I then spoke with a couple of others who had purchased fish from them, and heard the same story. The plants I had purchased, though, were healthy, and vigorous.
The next couple of times I purchased plants from them, things went off relatively smoothly. On one occasion, I was supplied with the wrong type of plant, but it was similar enough that I wasn't too perturbed. However, on each subsequent visit, things seemed to be much more disorganized, with workers there practically running into each other, and a lot of waiting, waiting, and more waiting.
The last two times that I went there, I must say, were enough to make me not want to return.
Bottom line:
The fish there are garbage
Prices are marginal, but the plants grow wonderfully
Customer service has become dismal, at best
The "manager" is horrible |
