Upon finding this nursery quite by accident (we were lost), the first plant that immediately grabbed our attention was a Tiger Eye Sumac ~ it was stunning with an equally impressive bargain sales price. Looking back in retrospect, I wish we purchased a couple of these before concerning ourselves with placement...we would have figured it out.
After looking around during this initial visit (this past summer of 2006), I returned and purchased 18 shrubs from Wildwood Nurseries. One was a new introduction at full price (i.e., 2 or 3 gallon Black Lace Sambucus Nigra), and the remaining were new introductions at half price (i.e., 1-gallon Pink Parasols Spirea Fritschiana & 2-gallon Snow Storm Spirea). Their pricing was unbeatable ~ even by big-box/chain mass-produced/consumed national standards.
Since I completely missed the spring blooming period and planted during the summer, I'll have to report back next spring (2007) about their spring flush.
Wildwood Nurseries stock is very healthy and well-cared for. Their staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and all around terrific!!! And their inventory falls fairly quickly during our limited planting season here in Southern New England. Within a day or two of my visits I returned for a few things I had previouly spotted, and much to my disappointment ~ they sold out!!!
I'll return in spring 2007 for some of the perennials I missed out on by being indecisive. And, I'll be sure to take greater advantage of their excellent sales and not miss out on their super bargains as I did with their gorgeous Tiger Eye Sumacs.
Wildwood Nurseries is truly lovely with a fabulous selection. It's located right off the highway for easy access and also has ample parking.
