This beautiful bayou is a favorite photo subject of the acclaimed C.C. Lockwood and can be seen in many of his publications. Those of us in the surrounding area are very fortunate that this swamp area still exists in its pristine state. The current owners and operators purchased the property to keep it as a nature preserve... it had been slated for fill-in and development! Swamp tours are offered, as well as an alligator observatory. In the past, you could also launch your own canoe for a self-guided tour (check to see if this is still available). Organized group activities and cruises are offered as well. Check out their website for a full range of what they offer.
I have been to Alligator Bayou many, many times over the years... both through canoeing with my family or Scouts and also treating out-of-town friends to the guided swamp tour. It's always a fun, entertaining, and educational time. I highly recommend a visit to this gorgeous location!
