I too love the great plant selection and the unusual animals. They also had an interesting collection of small rocks and some unusual wooden Indonesian art pieces including very large pieces that would be beautiful in a lush tropical garden.

I could spend a day here. They have all kinds of hard to find plants that you can't get anywhere else. They have a bamboo section, ferns, japanese maples, herbs, roses, cacti/succulents, fruit trees, etc etc. Lots of nice pots too.
I was there last week and saw a large tortoise on the path, and thinking it was a statue I didn't pay much attention to it. Then I got distracted looking at some brugmansias and when I turned to leave I almost fainted because mr turtle was right next to me walking around! They still have the boar/hog and the exotic bird. They also have a few cats inside.

You haven't been to a gardening center until you've been to Maas!!! Yeah, they have some expensive stuff like $6,900 near life sized bronze statues, but they also have $25 concrete ones and everything in between. If you want discount, go to one of the large chains...if you want WOW, go to Maas. We actually go there as a family outing sometimes, cause it'll take hours to meander through.
They once had a variety of exotic animals...wallabies, capiabaras, giant tortoise, pot belly pigs and more. Sadly on the last trip all we saw were a pair of miniature burrows, one wallaby, one pot bellied pig and an exotic bird of some sort. It was still a great trip, spend a couple of hours wandering about selecting plants, then went to the Kemah Boardwalk //www.kemahboardwalk.com/flash_content/flash_content.html which is less than 10 mins away. It's a great daytrip from Houston or Destination Vacation from other parts.
