I was referred to Clark Farms by Earth Care Farms, in search of premium bagged organic compost. For those in need of a few bags of the absolute best organic compost in the entire state of Rhode Island, this is the place to go!

Fortunately, we called first to get directions, as Clark Farms is set back at the end of a lengthy driveway, and its location is tucked away off the beaten path. I mention this because it may be easily missed if simply driving by ~ and this is one nursery definitely worth visiting!

What we discovered is a wonderful nursery of well-tended plants. Although their selection was quite limited when we visited (mid-latter November 2006)~ well past planting season in our area, what remained was pruned and/or prepped for overwintering.

Not only did we purchase their remaining inventory of Earth Care Farms organic compost, we also bought a couple of Weeks Roses. One of the roses was originally priced at $29.99 ~ a new introduction called "Wild Blue Yonder", and we paid a pittance of $5 ~ how could we pass it up? The other rose is "Fragrant Plum", also for $5 and originally priced at $24.99. Both were pruned and in excellent shape.

The interior was a spectacular display of winter holiday decor ~ absolutely stunning and worth a visit for this alone.

The people are nice, helpful, and struck us as being very laid-back (no pressure to purchase, which we always appreciate). Clark Farms will be one of our regular stops for perennials in the spring and end-of-season steals.
