This variety shows excellent hardiness, with nice glossy evergreen foliage and no damage at the end of winter. It is definitely one of the (non-hybrid) Camellia japonica varieties to try if you are around the northern part of the camellia belt. "Kumasaka" is a good bloomer as well - April seems to be the peak bloom time for me in northern Delaware. This variety is known for some sun tolerance. I have mine in both full and part-shade (i.e. half-day afternoon sun) and they seem to do equally well.

Spectacular blooms in winter. Easy to care for, at least here in Corte Madera, CA. Great specimen plant. Adds drama to a shade garden.
