I first planted 'Asian Beauty' 15 years ago, with 'Catskill' as a partner. It grew up to the eaves of my house, flowering and fruiting with abandon. January 1994 brought -28F which killed it to the snowline (maybe 20"). It has now exceeded my gutterline again.
This clone has a finer overall habit (thinner twigs, smaller rounder leaves, upright barrel shape, smaller floral clusters but numerous, smaller individual fruit) than other V. dilatatum, but the effect produced is better. The arrangement of the flowers is pleasant and not weighty; the leaves are held uniformly; the winter texture is elegant; and the fruit holds on till spring and glistens with each snowfall.
This clone was selected and named by Don Shadow, the illustrious Tennessee nurseryman.
I have to add: as I sit looking out the window 1/28/06, cardinals and mockingbirds are having a midwinter treat with the fruits of my four large plants.
Annual addition: 2/9/07 was the date of the mockingbird and robin rendezvous. What were fully loaded plants are now entirely stripped of fruit in one day's frenzy.
