It grows about 2 1/2 feet tall in full shade in my Alabama Garden. It spreads, but can be kept in check by pulling up the runners a couple of times a year. It would be a very good option for a tall ground cover in an area where it can be let run. Or an interesting accent in an area you don't mind pulling the runners now and then.

It gets shaded by a couple of very large Doug...Read Morelas Fir trees that are trimmed up to about 15 feet. It gets plenty of moisture in the fall, winter and spring, but very little in the summer. It has gotten to about 4 feet tall, and is very nice looking with its wide leaves. The leaves tend to burn at the tips, if the soil isn't acidic enough, so they make great companions for hydrangeas. Another unique feature of this happy little bamboo is the lack of branches. The leaves all sprout from a single stem. It's a very neat collector's bamboo.
