At first I would get this plant confused with E serrulata, but this one has distinctly twisting 'arms' that are less flattened than the other, and, as mentioned, 3 sided, as opposed to 2 sided (and thus has 3 rows of spines rather than just 2). Otherwise they are very similar species.
