Once classified as a hybrid of a Japanese Elm x a Wilson Elm from China, but it was agreed that there is now only the Japanese Elm species, no more Wilson Elm species. So it is a hybrid between one variety from China and one from Japan of the same species being Ulmus davidiana japonica. I've seen that Morton Arboretum has several good specimens and the Village of Hinsdale planted some as street trees, and Hinsdale Nursery is growing them in their fields. I've seen some Japanese Elms planted around parking lots by landscape architects in southeast Pennsylvania that seem to be this cultivar.
