Solanum Species, Currant Tomato, Wild Tomato

My currant tomato plants grew fine while the weather was mild in the Spring. I was led to believe that this variety withstands hot summer...Read Mores, but that is not true. As soon as temperatures got into the 90's, the plants started to decline and look like they're about to die, just like regular tomato plants. I heard it grows wild in S Florida but I think it's like a winter annual down there where there is hardly any frost. I will never plant this variety again here.

The only soil treatment or fertilizer I used is compost made from horse manure and leaf litter. They were grown from seed in a sandy loam soil in Charleston, SC.
